Having a piece or two may not harm you much but if you eat more than that, it may devastatingly play with your health; especially your waistline and arteries. Where an extra-crispy fried chicken breast contains 360 calories and 21 grams of fat; a grilled, skinned chicken breast would have only 210 calories and 8 grams of fat.
2. Mayonnaise and salad creams:
It requires no second opinion that salads are light, refreshing, and a perfect way to get lean protein. But high calorie salad toppings such as mayonnaise and salad creams can counter-attack these advantages of salads and can wreak havoc on your diet. This is because salad dressings like croutons carry 142 calories with 6 grams of fat per ounce, half a cup of cheese contains 228 calories with 18 grams of fat and a pouch of creamy Caesar dressing has around 260 calories with 26 grams of fat. So next time you choose these rich dressings for your salad, think twice.
3. Street food:
Street foods including those near sea-shores and in fairs and carnivals are almost everybody’s favorite. However good these may be on your taste buds, they may be no less than poison for diet conscious people who want to lose weight. With variety of them on the road-side shacks and stalls, they contain (varying amounts of calories and fats) in quite large quantities and it is best to avoid them or eat them in very small portions.
4. Fried snacks:
Sweet and salty snacks including potato chips, nachos, puffs, samosas etc. may be disastrous to people trying to lose weight. Although they may not affect you if taken in small quantities, however if you cross the limits they would harm you. This can be inferred from the amount of calories loaded with them: where each ounce of potato chips or cheese puffs has about 160 calories and 10 grams of fat; cheese nachos contain about 692 calories, 38 grams of fat and 1,632 mg sodium.
5. Frozen treats and ice-creams:
Love the soft serve at McDonald’s? But a scoop of the delicious ice-cream can have up to 380 calories and 22 grams of fat. On the other hand, Baskin Robbins’ two-scoop vanilla and peanut butter ‘n’ chocolate on a sugar cone may carry about 415 calories and 23.5 grams of fat. So cut short on your consumption of you favorite yummy ice-creams and other frozen treats if you want to stay fit.
6. Sweet alcoholic drinks:
Invited to a cocktail party? Make sure you control your intake there and avoid the popular fruity alcoholic drinks as they may tremendously add up to your calorie intake. These may contain as much as 300-800 calories and it’s best to avoid them.
7. Sweetened beverages:
Chocolate ice-cream shakes, iced lemon tea, energy drinks or other fruity drinks–all are just too difficult to resist. In fact, people often look towards them on the first place in order to quench their thirst. However, these may contain as many as 150 calories (for 12 ounces) or even more in case of creamy shakes (greater than 500 calories).
8. Cheese cakes and French fries:
Cheese cakes and French fries are loved by all. Who does not like the finger-licking cheese and macaroni? But these sort of deep fried foods are packed with huge amount of calories and fats. They can wreck havoc on your waistline and you must stay away from them if you are weight conscious.
9. Sausages, hot dogs and other fast foods:
Sausages and hot dogs are one of the favorite food items these days and are loved by teenagers and children. However, teenagers and children are very much prone to obesity and eating fast foods may be quite dangerous for them. Moreover, most of them underestimate the amount of calories in these foods. A typical hot dog consists of about 280 calories while a popular sausage called ‘kielbasa’ can have up to 330 calories, 24 g of fat and 1,590 mg of sodium (6 ounces of kielbasa). The average burger on a bun with cheese, lettuce, and tomato contains about 735 calories, 45 g of fat and 1,000 mg of sodium.
10. High-fat meats and barbecue:
The lip smacking meats and barbecue preparations are too difficult to resist. But in order to be good to your body, you need to avoid them. Red meat is pretty rich in calories and pork and beef ribs are considered as the fattiest part of meat. A 20-oz. T-bone steak can weigh in at 1,540 calories and 124 g fat. Also, try to stay away from ribs and other cuts of meat with visible marbling and fat around the edges.
