Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies Limited. He founded Infosys in 1981 along with six other software professionals and served as the CEO of Infosys for 21 years till March 2002. Under his leadership, Infosys was listed on NASDAQ in 1999. He served as the Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor from 2002 to 2006. Mr. Murthy was voted the “World Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young in 2003. He was voted India’s most powerful CEO for three consecutive years – 2004, 2005 and 2006 – by The Economic Times. He was chosen as the “Business Process Innovator” by The Economist in 2007. He received the Ernst Weber Engineering Leadership medal from The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2007 for his pioneering role in the globalization of IT services. He was awarded the “Padma Vibhushan”, the second highest civilian award by the Government of India in 2008. The Government of France conferred the Officer of the Legion of Honor in 2008. Mr. Murthy holds an Electrical Engineering degree from the Mysore University and an M.Tech (Electrical) from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He has been conferred honorary doctorate degrees by several well-known universities in India and abroad.
