With so much of crimes and criminal cases increasing in the country, there is a rising need to keep the imprisoned in tight security. In order to de-congest the over-crowded Tihar jail, three new jails are being constructed at Mandoli, Narela and Baprola area of the national capital.
The Tihar Jail, which is considered one of the largest prisons in the world, houses 13,000 prisoners against the sanctioned capacity of 6,250 prisoners which is double and 500 prisoners additional to the sanctioned capacity.
One would have mixed feelings after knowing this as he must be worried about the number of criminals increasing but also thinking about the housing the imprisoned.
There is also a jail at Rohini which houses around 2,000 inmates.
The construction of jail at Mandoli in east Delhi will provide accommodation to 3,776 prisoners. The Jail Complex is spread over 68 acres of land.
Mandoli Jail Complex is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 169 crores approximately. That’s a huge amount.
The Mandoli will have facilities like solar water heating system, RO system, sewage treatment plant and water harvesting systems. Sounds great, isn’t it?
The Mandoli Jail will be completed by the end of this year while the other two should be ready by the next year.
