As the university has brought a slight change in the marking system all have been giving their own opinions onto which marking system is best for the students! Teachers, Students, Parents all have different opinions some think the previous system while others believe the new system is nothing less.
According to teachers the 60:40 marking scheme was better for students as both internal and external examinations were equally important for students, because of the new 75:25 marking pattern the internal examination being divided into 3 sections has less impact over the student.
- 10 marks internal test
- 10 marks presentation/projects
- 5 marks for class participation and attendance
According to the teacher’s as the external examination carries more weightage of marks and this is the reason because of which students generally tend to rely on the external examination for marks and pay less attention towards internal test, projects and attendance which in turn has a negative effect on the student’s overall performance.
During the 60:40 marking pattern the internal and external marks were divided almost equally and the students responsibly carried out all the academic tasks be it presentations or internal tests. Changes in the syllabus are brought so that students engross more in studies on their own wish and perform well. But this type of marking pattern gives them the liberty to tag the external marks more important than the internal marks as they contribute to their overall marks in a small way.
This marking pattern in a way, however can prove to have a positive impact on the students and not the one which hampers their performance. If the students are stress-free because of distribution of internal marks in different areas they may focus on each and everything more carefully and will try to score in whichever areas it is possible for them.
Everything undergoes a change in our some changes benefit us while some help us to learn new methods and techniques for our future. All the experiences good and bad are important and help us in life in some or the other way.
