7 Things Every BMS Student Hates About The BMS CourseÂ
BMS is a very different and unique course compared to other commerce degree courses. I will always consider BMS as the best decision I have ever taken. But there are things that I or can say every BMS student might hate about this course which needs improvement. Here are those few points.
-
No projects and assignments. Ergo, no management skills taught!
Thanks to the 75-25 exam pattern by Mumbai University, there are no projects and assignments for the 1st and 2nd year students. So it is just studying from the books and giving exams. No practical knowledge is taught, no management skills are taught to the students. On top of that, there is a 200 marks project in the 3rd year. Since there is no practise in the first 2 years, it will become difficult for 3rd year students to perform well.
Â
-
Too many publications. Too much confusion.
Management is a course where you cannot just study topics from one source. You have to refer different books and study it in depth. This really wastes our time and money. Also, it makes us study and read information which is irrelevant to the exam portion.
Â
-
Vast portion. Less time.
In other courses, there are similar subjects whose difficulty level increases each year. Where as in BMS, all three years have different subjects that are not inter-related at all. This can be interesting at times, but it is also very tough to remember everything.
-
No interesting add-on subjects in the course.
The subjects in BMS are strictly only about management subjects. There are no extra subjects like foreign languages and branches of business added which will enhance our knowledge and help us in future. This totally demotivates BMS students to take this course.
Â
-
It doesn’t support and help unconfident students.
The earlier 60-40 exam pattern required students to make presentations and projects. But now with the 75-25 exam pattern, the students are left with only studying for exams and no assignments. BMS students need to be good at communicating skills. But with no motivation, they lack these qualities. Later when they join the business environment, they will face a lot of problems.
-
BMS doesn’t appreciate innovation and creativity.
In BMS, you have to just read and remember the answers and write them in your exam paper. There is no sign of creativity and innovation in this. Basically the education system is testing only your remembering capability. Not what you actually understood in the subject. This is not suitable for BMS students because BMS is all about creativity and thinking out-of-the-box! And since this is one of the things that is not included in the BMS course, its value is deteriorating day by day.Â
Â
-
BMS has only 2 specializations in the 3rd Year
The 2 specializations of BMS are marketing and finance. You have to choose from either of the two subjects. This is bad because there are many more fields besides marketing and finance. There is human resources, sales, advertising, operations research, etc. But these are not included as a specialization. A BMS student is forced to choose between the two options. Â
Â
These are a few things I feel needs improvement. BMS should be all about showcasing your talent and skills, not just testing your brain capability. BMS needs a change to bring out the best in students.
