Interview with Zinnia Engineer, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper 2013-14, Jai Hind College, Churchgate who scored 84.14% and GPA score is 7.00

How does it feel to be a Topper in the university exams? Whom will you credit your success to? What was your success mantra?

–          It feels like my efforts have paid off for as much as I studied

–          To my college teachers, parents and myself

–          Study with a plan

Did you prepare any timetable and please share your study strategy/exam tips to crack each subject of sem 5?

–          Yes, I studied with a timetable for the board exam.

– My mantra is to stay absolutely calm before the paper and never revise an hour before the exam, unless of course you’re doing last minute studies.

Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

– Depends on ones capacity to cope & one’s own personal choice whether or not to take extra classes

– I personally think self-study is enough for me and so I never felt the need to join classes, if you pay attention in class

What was your specialization subject? Why did you opt for it?

– Special Studies in Finance

– Because, I like accounting and dealing with numbers

Can you list the textbooks you referred for all subjects?

– FM, SSF, HRM: Vipul Prakashan

– Business Ethics: Rishabh Publication

– Logistics & Service Sector Marketing Management: Sheth Publication

– Although I think for all theory based subjects Rishabh Publication i s ideal plus class notes from college.

Which was your worst paper? Why? Which was your best paper? Why?

– Worst: Financial Management, because there was a major confusion as far as the question paper was concerned, from both the sides of the university and students.

– Best: Special Studies in Finance, because it was the simplest and the most scoring paper.

Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?
– Stress, depression and so on comes from being unprepared and you’re unprepared if you don’t have a proper plan.

– I personally overcome stress by Dance, Music & working out or any form of extra curricular activity.

The Black Book project contributing a significant part to the percentage, please share the experiences you had during the preparation of the project and how has it benefited you.

– This project gives you an opportunity to actually go in depth of any management related topic of your choice and learn quite a bit more than you already know, that’s if you actually take it seriously.

– I had extended my internship research project, and so actually gained an in depth idea about my topic. Besides it trained me to prepare any kind of research project in the future. I learnt that you could also mention the completion of this project on your CV, thus adding weight to it.

Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS? What are your future plans?

– I did two internships:

1. Ogilvy & Mather Pvt. Ltd.

2. Kidstoppress.com, one of India’s first Kids Lifestyle Website

– Future plans: To work for a bit, then get either a Masters degree in finance or become CFA
