Warm wishes on ‘National Safety Day’, a day spent in honor of widespread awareness regarding industrial safety in India. This ‘National Safety Day’, www.bms.co.in a youth portal that connects BMS students across University of Mumbai thought of taking up a safety issue that connects not only the safety of the Industrial sector but also the safety of every Indian citizen; ‘Women’s safety’!

This is an issue whose problems have been well highlighted across the past year yet no efforts have been made to find solutions. We play blame games or we ignore the issue have we every tried to find out a solution to this issue?

The solution is an empowered woman, not just by her ideas but by her strength and skills too! As a necessity today women and girls across this country need to learn self-defense. Schools and colleges need to have seminars and workshops to help girls learn from a young age. Parent’s too need to understand that as important it is to send your little girl to dance and drawing classes, it is important to send her for a karate class or to learn a sport which will help build her stamina and energy to be able to bash up her attackers.

“Our parents let us study and live our dreams so that we can pursue the career of our choice just like our brothers and male friends. With the constant fear of my safety in mind all of these progressive actions of a girl’s parents will come to an end” says Smita Rao a T.Y.BMS student.

“If we know how to defend ourselves our parents would not have to worry about letting us study and go to work” she adds.

“It is this thought process of having an empowered woman who can take care of herself and live her dreams which promoted us to conduct the ‘AATM RAKSHA’ workshops for women.” Says Tanvi Laddha, President of Rotract Club of Dahisar Coast.

“This AATM RAKSHA workshops were conducted in two phases where Mrs. Alpa Amit Khatri and Mr. Amit Khatri and respectively instructed our participants on self-defense and safety” she adds.

Women’s safety can be ensured only be the woman herself. Empower yourself and feel responsible for your own safety is the only solution to help the Indian woman progress!
