Does the Education System truly need to change?

Ernest Dimnet says, “Children have to be educated, but they have also to be left to educate themselves”. In today’s time her saying is very apt for our society. Since not all the things can be taught some need to be learnt. They say time and experience are the best teachers but do we actually leave anything on them to teach us.

We often hear students complaining about assignment, examination pattern, evaluation standards, projects, etc. with most students ending with that our education system is horrible it needs to change. Soo here arises the big question if change is what is constant should we be the ones to bring about the change?

Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another. Starting with primary education and moving onto secondary and finally reaching a stage of college and Degree College our education system has its levels and passing standards. But do text books teach it all? Is knowledge only for passing the exams? It’s time we do a reality check!!!!

There are changes and several modifications are also made with the introduction of new courses there is a lot offered. But still there are certain gaps which have to be filled. The essence and meaning of education and its implications have to be realized by both the system and the society.

Movies like Taare Zameen Par, Stanley Ka Dabba, FALTU, 3 Idiots, and Pathshala have tried to throw light on this crucial subject in a light way. They have addressed the issues well and have made people think on the issues. But the response to these issues ultimately lies in our hands. Whether we come out of the theatre and think and react to it or again get back to our normal life in obliqueness.

Education does not only mean to attain a degree. It is not only to get a job or because your parents want you to study. Education should not be looked upon as a baggage on your shoulder which is carried because of the societal or peer pressure but as a thirst to awaken and enlighten your soul. Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence. It makes a person distinguish between what is right or wrong. Helps and enables to make the right choices and correct decisions.

Education may not be everything and the success of Dhirubai Ambani in the formation of the Reliance Empire, Bill Gates of Microsoft and Steve Jobs founder of Apple stands testimony to that but education is definitely something and that something is for every individual to identify. Education is a ladder on which your life will progress. But it’s not only text books or our curriculum which educates us as Ernest said life is the best teacher our experiences give us the best education. So let’s make it simple what we learn is education. How we learn from where we learn is our perspective but if we have the thirst to learn in life we will get the best education. Learn from your experiences, learn from the people around you, and learn from your own mistakes. Just take every situation in your stride and seize on every opportunity.

A professor of mine once said, ‘The way and methods of imparting education has changed. The introduction of theoretical knowledge was a must and has shown its improvement in quality of education but at the same time the olden ways and lessons are missed. The knowledge of Vedas, arthashastra, etc. is not taught today. Television also has its negative effect on student life. Nowadays the stress level amongst students is on a scaring rise to

Newspapers and the other sources of information are also great means of educating oneself. Newspaper is a very good tool not only to know about the current happenings around the world but also a means to improve one’s vocabulary, language, speaking and writing skills. A daily read will inculcate a good intellect and a good knowledge base. We are fortunate to be a part of the Internet era and can know anything and everything in this universe just at the click of the mouse. My friends use all your resources to the optimum.

Education stays lifelong and is a constant companion at all stages. It is the knowledge base and formulates the identity of an individual. So don’t be the slaves of your ambitions but the masters of your virtues. All the Best!!!
