Have you ever sat on your couch and watched a Satyajit Ray movie? I would surely recommend you to watch his hit movies of all times including ‘Pathar Panchali’, ‘Ashani Sanket’ and ‘Apur Sansar’. Have you not heard about these movies? Well, it is obvious as these were the movies of the early 1950s era, which largely depicted the Indian society, catering to every segment of the audience. Why not ask your grandparents about the movies during their ‘black and white period’? They would surely mention these names in their black and white list. Well, if you are a hardcore movie buff then do watch these as they are surely going to move you away from this contemporary world to the world of realistic cinema. You will surely have some elderly accomplices with you to watch these films.
It’s time to return back to our current world. I am sure you would have spent a few hours back there in the black and white days enjoying your bowl of popcorns. Sadly the black and white is all over with the advent of colourful T.V. We now have over more than 100 films being made in our Bollywood industry. With this there comes a list of debutant directors, debutant producers, debutant actors and actresses. The Bollywood is now concentrating on this new age cinema wherein the real life is depicted with versatile flavours of melodrama. There are a lot of art movies made with a limited budget, like ‘The Lunchbox’, directed by Ritesh Batra, tends to be a practical movie wherein Saajan, a Mumbai office worker nearing retirement, is delivered the wrong lunch by a dabbawala…and the story continues. The recent ‘Children of War’, directed by Mrityunjay Devvrat focus its entire story line on the Bangladesh war of freedom during the 70s. Surely just one bowl of popcorn wouldn’t be enough.
There has been a huge arch between the Bollywood then and the Bollywood now. Beat the heat this summer by cooling off at your home with friends and relatives screening our Indian cinema.
