A Badminton match which took place between Malaysia and Japan ended up with the victory in the hands of Japan in the form of Thomas Cup for the first time in the history of Japan. The match was between Daren Liew of Malaysia against Takuma Ueda of Japan. Daren liew of Malaysia had quite high hopes of winning the title because even after going through serious knee injury, Malaysian Badminton mandarins placed their faith in him and named him skipper of their Thomas Cup squad.
Having gone through knee injury liew’s participation in the Thomas cup was quite uncertain. But keeping faith in he’s abilities and talent he was made to take part in the competition. After losing his third singles against India and Germany and a tie against Korea, The responsibility of wining the finals weighted heavily on his shoulders.
On Sunday in the fifth and final match of the Thomas cup against Japan’s Takuma Ueda, Daren liew had only one thing in mind was to level the scores at one game all. He tried hard to not repeat any of the mistakes which cost him the first game. But despite of trying so hard liew allowed some errors to creep in again and lost his concentration while Ueda took this golden chance and ended up defeating liew. It was a moment of pride for everyone in Japan seeing Ueda lifting the title, Ueda indeed earn a status on earning a folk hero-like status after the Thomas Cup title for the very first time in the Sports History of Japan
However it was quite heartbreaking for the iconic and highly talented Malaysia Badminton player Daren liew on loosing once again in such major tournament.
We congratulate Japan and Takuma Ueda for winning the title and at the same express deep concerns for the Daren liew on his defeat after a game always has two sides that is when one wins other loses.
