Uma-bha-2

Born on 3rd May 1959 in Dunda, Tikamgarh District Madhya Pradesh to a family of peasants, Uma Bharati, now 55 has been appointed the Union Cabinet Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on 26th May 2014.

She attended schooling up until Sixth Standard only.  She describes herself as a ‘Sanyasi’ or ‘religious missionary’. Ms. Bharati was guided in the world of politics by her Political mentor Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia and so got involved with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) at a very young age. She had an unsuccessful start of her political career when she contested for the Parliamentary Elections in 1984. Nevertheless, she found her winning way in 1989, when she contested the Khajuraho seat, and retained it in the elections of 1991, 1996 and 1998. In 1999, she contested from Bhopal and won. In the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, she held many state-level and cabinet-level portfolios of Human Resource Development, Tourism, Youth Affairs and Sports and also Coal & Mines.

And well, we are talking about Indian Politician after all so there are bound to be history talks which take their graph down.

A year after being appointed the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Ms. Bharati had to resign as an arrest warrant was issued against her in connection with the 1994 Hubli Riots.   After defying the BJP high command publicly, Ms. Bharati was expelled from BJP in 2005 for the indiscipline. She then started her own political party named Bhartiya Jan Shakti Party (also abbreviated BJP), which failed to create a mark and lacked political success. On June 7, 2011 she was re-inducted in the BJP.
Uma Bharati has been a controversial and prominent leader for she was one of the major faces involved in the Ramjanmabhoomi movement alongside others. She was fierce in her speeches which garnered the movement a huge momentum.
Ms. Bharati was indicted for inciting the mob to a riot that led to the Babri Masjid Demolition in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.
