The gang rape in UP saddened me but what left me aghast was the reaction of UP’s CM Akhilesh Yadav. The way he made a mockery of the situation which disgusted me even further but then some sense prevailed to me and I realised what am I expecting from the son of Mulayam Singh who had said, ‘boys will be boys’. How can I expect the son of such a man to protect women and empower them? I am being foolish to think that rural India will change for good and strength and power will be in the hands of every woman.
But what I can surely do is call UP’s CM a spineless moron who has no sense of governance which is a clear indication after the lawless state of affairs. Akhilesh Yadav cannot deny that it is his responsibility as the CM of UP to exercise regulation and maintain law and order in his state. But surely he hasn’t taken his responsibilities seriously and doesn’t know what all comes under his ambit. It’s his father’s arrogance developed due to power which has definitely passed on to him.
Kiran Bedi opines that there is a need for rural policing. But the issue is much more than that. Police is not doing their job due to the government. There is no sense of functioning in the Akhilesh government. There is police force in UP but they refuse to act. Women are raped, brutalised, their family is abused by the culprits and there is no action taken against them.
Dalit women have been marginalised in UP and always targeted. They are victimised. Women have always been at the receiving end of the atrocities of the society. And politicians use them as a tool to influence people during election campaigns. They speak of women development and empowerment up on the podiums but at the grass root level nothing is done for women. In a country where Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati and Durga are worshipped the state of women is pitiable.
What should I call Akshilesh? A CM or a rapist and murderer to run a sate with no governance?
