The Television offers a variety of concepts to our generation. Serials, movies, travel based channels, cartoons, knowledge, news, entertainment, and now a days even a trip to the renowned temple’s bhajan sessions. Watching the TV box is no big deal. The poorest of poorest now own a TV set, a second hand one at least. Our smart phones now have apps which directly connect us to our favorite shows and programs.
Movies. Somehow these have become a very integral part of a youngster’s life. Every Friday a new Hollywood or Bollywood movie is released. Bunking the first three lectures of college and going for the “first-day-first-show” is a new trend. Well, that’s not the end of it but also updating the review of the movie on our FB statuses is.
We all make sure that we plan and go for the most spoken about movie and catch it in the theater. When I go through the papers and read about the revenue that these movies raise in a few days, I am only left amazed. The figure is in lakhs and crores! All I can think to myself is, “Really?!” I mean come on, 213 million people remain hungry in India daily! If the same amount of money would have been donated to these people, so much of the population would not remain starving for days together!
Producers and actors are now ready to touch any height to raise the TRP of their shows. There are so many daily soaps featured on the television. Well, the astonishing part is the number of people following it. However, we all need entertainment in our lives. Yes, after a long day at work or extra lectures in college, we all need our dose of entertainment.
Watching TV is not the issue, but being influenced by it is. There are so many kids who get carried away by the stunts which are performed. They attempt it and break their bones in this manner. Well, it is somehow no one’s mistake. A child does not have an intellect that helps him recognize what’s right and what’s harmful for him or her.
And it is a director’s job to make his production popular. However the misleading advertisements should be minimized. Children tend to watch them and insist their parents to purchase the commodity. Few of them really get demanding at times.
Young girls have a habit of waiting for their ‘prince charming’ who supposedly owns a white horse and is searching for them. And they will meet soon, when the time is right. But does this happen in reality? I am not against love stories, but my point is not to waste time waiting for this one guy.
He certainly isn’t the end of the world. We forget that it is only a 3-hour window that we are watching. All that does not happen in reality. Not every guy is going to surrender their lives for you. Not that a girl isn’t worth it, but there is so much more to life.
I personally know girls and guys who imitate their favorite actors and role models. They dress like that, purchase clothes similar to them, and buy products which they endorse. Now this is totally unnecessary. Having role models and adoring them is good, it gives you inspiration to figure out goals in life sometimes, but imitating is not the key. Losing one’s originality is of no use.
Well on a positive side, I feel television has also done wonders. Some movies and shows are really inspirational. For example, Chak De India, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Taare Zameen Par, Iqbal, 3 Idiots, etc., these are classic movies one needs to watch. They inspire you. Make you realize how important it is to be focused in life. We learn a lot in movies like these. Also in Akshay Kumar’s movie OMG (Oh My God), I loved how they have portrayed the concept of the Divine.
The television has somehow also made the world a better place to live in. It provides you with channels such as Discovery which have so much to learn from! Various shows aired on this channel are marvelous. They provide you with many new things. Also channels like Travel and Living, Fox traveler, etc. are a feast for the travel addict. No doubt this TV box is unique box indeed.
It connects us to the entire world. We know the live updates about FIFA World Cup and Olympics, which two countries are fighting, where there has been a plane crash and so much more from the news channels. Plus some news channels show us the reality through those secret stingray operations which I totally love! Also debates. Arnab Goswami pressuring the ministers was a sight to watch!
Children enjoy their favorite cartoons these days. Though some of them are totally pointless and idiotic, creative shows are a boon to children nowadays. Television media is also now a wonderful platform to showcase one’s talents and skills. Those dance and music reality shows are once in a while worth watching. It’s delighting to watch new talent aspire so perfectly. However competition has increased to a higher level.
Not only are the youngsters benefited but also the elder people benefit as they get good medium to pass away time from channels like Sanskaar and Aastha. They feel connected to the spiritual path.
Also through shows such as Satyamev Jayate, the population is educated. They know what is wrong in the nation and feel a sense of patriotism which is really needed in this country. The younger generation or the youth of the country is educated. After all these are the people who are capable of bringing a change.
On an end note I would say, TV has been a wonderful creation by man. The advancements made in this field are worth appreciation. Like initially having a black and white TV was a status symbol, which later on moved to color TV, then HD (High Definition), then UHD (Ultra High Definition) and now the latest, Curved Televion! I hope all this comes in the best use of mankind as this invention is a wave which has affected the entire nation.
