It is true that only education will not give you success in life. The practical things that you learn along with your own passion is instrumental for the same. Startups are chaotic as there is so much to do with only a few people. In the beginning you will need cash, so you are inclined to chase every opportunity. You are likely to say “yes” to everything that seems as a potential client, customers or anything that shows a mere hint of interest in your company. Always saying “yes” can lead to disruption and chaos. You may end up taking too much in your plate. However,to be successful and stay focused you will always need to do the following 3 things:
1- Choose a business model.
Starting a business can be life changing. As a startup you might try to adjust and fit in the environment suitable for you. As your startup is in a developing stage, you even try to make changes. But once you have found a optimum way and have seen the various possibilities, it’s time to put together the business model that works for you. Figure out the market you are trying to reach, how will they interpret your product, how much will they pay for it and how are you going to take your business forward.
2- Pick one or two things.
Obviously, as a startup you are too keen on getting as many clients as you can. This may prove to be anti-productive. Don’t get too enthusiast on the number of clients or else, you will end up being a mediocre company. For success, focus on the productivity and quality of your product or service. Decide what you are really good at and stick to it. People may ask for products or service that are just one step different to what you do. You might be tempted for it but don’t give up your core-value of starting the business. You believed in your idea to start the business, believe and stay focus on getting it through too.
3- Get rid of bad clients.
This is one of the hardest things you will experience in your startup phase. At the start, you might feel obliged to work with them. However, there are bad clients too. They will try to suck your blood and stick with you hoping that you can do what others cant i.e. to fix them. Better get rid of such clients who look for profits at the cost of your startup. It’s fine if you don’t work with these guys as sticking to them for little money will create havoc in your startup.
Don’t wait until the situation gets worse. Always try and inculcate these major 3 things that can help you achieve your business what it wants. Stick to what is best for you plus a significant return. Never fade away from your end goal. Keeping your eyes wide-open and staying focused to what you want to do can help you withstand obstacles in your business as well as personal life.
