You barely think that you need a 19 year old college student to effectively build your business. But you should. Just because they are a bunch of youths who always like to chill out doesn’t mean they can’t be productive. Intelligent interns may offer more value in their stipulated term compared to your executives.
Here are the 5 ways in which they can be useful for building your venture:
1- They come in with lot of energy.
Interns are new to business environment. This drives their energy and urge to be at their top performance each day. They are eager to learn new things. They can come in refreshed and energetic, do their work and then leave. They add a lot to your business environment due to this.
2- They are inexpensive.
College students are happy with whatever you give them. They are even ready to change schedules to fit in your budget. The overhead costs of getting them work is minimum compared to their value provided. However, unpaid internships are also acceptable if it is work-from-home based.
3- Fresh eyes and ideas.
They are new to the business world as I said before and thus, they have good ideas. Because of their naivety, they foresee problems with a different mindset. And you never know when their idea can be your business breakthrough. Always welcome intelligent interns with fresh ideas and having an urge to learn.
4- They might turn out to be your full-time employees.
Good interns can become your full-time employees and it is always easy to deal with people you have been working before. Think internship programmes as a process of finding full-time employees whom you have been training even before providing permanent placements.
5- They will accomplish the “unreasonable”
College students are inexperienced and that’s notable but look at the brighter side of an inexperienced person. Now, you might be amused as to what value can an inexperienced person bring? Right? Inexperienced people do not know their benchmark and limitations. Lack of experience is a good thing in many cases since less experienced people will be less anchored to what they think they should and shouldn’t be able to do. That might be useful to you as you can give them some meaningful work and something that is slightly off their reach. It excites them and brings a real sense of internship for both the parties.
Business will not work if you leave many responsibilities on college students. Little bit of management and guidance is required to channel their energy for productivity. However, motivated interns will always bring the above values with them! 😀
