1) Tell us about yourself, your background, why did you choose to do BMS and what do you plan to do after BMS?

Ans.: Hi! I’m Bushra. All of 20 years old, currently in my last sem of BMS at Bhavan’s College. Other than my studies, I enjoy learning new languages, discovering new cuisines and love listening to all genres of music. I hail from a Commerce background, I chose BMS because it’s subjects were like an extension of what I had done in Commerce, but in an interesting way. I plan to do my Masters, once I’m done with BMS.

2) Tell us about your college (your college experience, favorite memories, favorite faculties etc.)

Ans.: My experience in Bhavan’s college was tremendous. In the first year, I was elected as the CR. This was the part where I learnt about my leadership qualities. The fests, seminars, Industrial visits became a deep rooted part in my memory of the time I spent in Bhavan’s College. Every teacher I had, in these three years taught me something special, which will be very valuable to me and something that I can take forward in my life.

3) Who in your life has influenced the most? Why?

Ans.: To be the best in your life, you need to have a role model or a good influence. This doesn’t help you to “magically” start concentrating, in what you’re trying to achieve, but will surely help you to create a goal and focus over it. My influence/role models have been my parents. Their experience and stories inspire me and I try my best to turn my life into an inspiring story like theirs. For you’ll, anyone could be your influence, a friend, a teacher or even a stranger, with an inspiring story. Their story must intrigue you to learn something from their life and in turn, make your life interesting.

4) Any comments on the revised BMS Syllabus?

Ans.: The new syllabus had an advantage where you could actually elect an entire subject i.e. Finance, Marketing or HR. This helps you to learn in-depth about the elective. Knowing every detail about the subject that you’re planning to take as your career is pretty important. But when a sudden change like this takes place, it becomes very difficult for students to even have a feel about the questions asked in the exam, as it is a new subject and there are no past papers to go through. This semester had a lot of brain wracking sessions, but in the end, hard work never goes in vain.

5) Tell us about your tips to study in TYBMS?

Ans.: 1) I had no particular pattern to study, but when I sat to study, I would sit through a good 3-4 hours till I was content with the chapters covered. 2) Practical subjects like, SFM and IAPM requires practice everyday. 3) Theory subjects need a good read-through, so that your concepts are perfect, Mugging will only make you forget everything during the time of exams.

6) How does it feel to be amongst the toppers?

Ans.: Looking at the change in the syllabus, I didn’t expect such a percentage. But yes, just like anyone else who would be in my position, I feel happy and blessed.

7) Did you join any class? If yes/No, why?

Ans.: Yes, I joined VST in the beginning of semester 5. This was one of the best decisions I could’ve made regarding TYBMS! A new syllabus, a new year with new subjects is hard to gulp-down, but Vipin Sir made it a cake-walk for us! The sole feature that differentiates VST from others is the integration of real-life case studies with dry, “hard to memorize” concepts, this helps make learning much more effective and interesting. Prof. Vipin Saboo’s teaching practices are very practical and unique. He makes sure to give us a good practice by conducting weekly tests and a prelim before the sem-end exams.

8) Would you like to give any tips to your juniors so that they can prepare for TYBMS in the same way you did?

Ans.: Don’t wait for the portion to get over in college. Start reading the theory chapters well in advance. A new subject requires a prior go through, so that you are well aware about the small concepts included in the chapter. Last minute studies will make you all confused and so, elaborating a 7.5 mark question becomes hard due.

9) If you are made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, what changes would you like to initiate in the Indian education system? And even in BMS?

Ans.: 1) The University Website requires a good platform; every detail required for every section by the student will be placed well. Keeping the students well-aware about their course is a good practice.

2) Subjects will be based on a more practical level. The current subjects are practical but they aren’t initiated in the right manner for the students. Allocating a part of the credits to mandatory weekly tests, presentations or even a thesis can help the child in building up the subject in a more interesting way.

3) Giving more importance to mandatory Internships or Research by granting a part of the credits to the student. This will give the student an idea to choose either path after graduation i.e. A Doctorate or Employment

10) Your feedback for BMS.co.in?

Ans.: Bms.co.in is a very comprehensive website. Every single detail that I have required , regarding BMS has been provided by the site. A great website! Keep up the good work!
