“The first test of a truly great person is his humility” – Ruskin Bond.
I am glad I met a person who is an epitome of the above saying. This person is my B.M.S. professor Mrs. Parul Singhal. My three years of B.M.S have been truly a special experience and I came across various teachers who touched my life in these years with their teaching. However Prof. Parul stands out because of her friendly nature. I read these lines from apabhramsha couplet which says “how does a great man resemble a mango tree? Both bend low with their achievements”. Prof. Parul is one such teacher who has many feathers in her cap but still is humble in her nature. She has graduated with B.B.A degree and then pursued her M.B.A degree, NET and is currently pursuing her P.H.D. She has 9 years of teaching experience. She teaches subjects like Business Environment, Business Ethics, and Business Communication and is a specialised teacher in marketing. She is extremely creative and has won many state awards for the same and has given her contribution in various cultural programmes of the college.
I want to do my M.B.A in H.R and hence always thought marketing is not my cup of tea. This perception changed after I attended lectures by Prof. Parul. I not only developed interest in the subject but also looked for her lectures. When it comes to teaching, Prof. Parul has just one simple philosophy which is to be a friend to her students first. I believe that in our life our friends become teachers at one point when they advice us but it takes great efforts for a teacher to be a friend to her students.
Prof. Parul has always made sure to make her subjects interesting with case studies and practical examples. A very committed teacher she makes sure that not only her subject is completed on time but that she also takes out time to solve each student’s doubts and provide guidance. Her attitude of friendliness and being a mentor and a guide to her students not only make students like her but also score good marks in her subject. She has always been keen in solving each student’s doubts with her vast knowledge. And hence it is said “knowledge grows more on the pedestal of modesty”,
Although each lecture with her is a memorable one and as I recall I share with her two fond memories. One is of me visiting her place early in the morning with a cake and the other of me getting her a small gift from Hyderabad from my industrial visit. She was very warm and sweet with her reaction and graced my gift by wearing it for one of her lecture in my class.
I respect Prof. Parul for being an awesome teacher, a wonderful woman and most importantly a dear friend.
HENRY WARD BEECHER says “in this world, it is not what we take up, but what we give up, that makes us rich”
Hence, the above saying tells me that teachers are the richest in world for they give so much to their students!!
