GURUREVA PARANBRAHMA TASMAI SHRIIGURAVE NAMAH.
We were taught this shlok in school which means that guru, our teachers, who teach us are like Lord Brahma, Vishu and Mahesh. A guru is above all….so we should always be thankful for their blessings. As we come to college our thinking and ideologies change a little, guru become friendlier, cool, and understanding… that’s how college professors are…!!
I know for everybody when one talks about college…it’s never about study or professors… but just friends and facebook. College life is all about being with friends, bunking lectures, going for movies, laughing loud, sharing gossips, everything except studying. Whatever we think, the fact is we are in college to study and our professors are the ones who help us the most in that.
If one says school teachers are our second mother then college professors are a combination of a friend and father. They are strict and philosophical like our father. Loving and understanding like our friends. I, a student of K.J.Somaiya College of Arts And Commerce, BMS course would like to share something about my favourite professor in college Prof. Bharati Shetty.
BHARATI means Goddess SARASWATI – The Goddess of knowledge. Prof. Bharati truly justifies her name because she truly is a beautiful ocean of knowledge. She is a combination of beauty with brains. Prof. Shetty is herself a B.B.I graduate from Lala Lajpatrai College of Commerce and Economics; has completed Post Graduation and currently pursuing LLB. Like herself she motivates us to go far in life and pursue our goals in life. Apart from being our professor Ms. Shetty has also been associated with banking sector in the past. She has had the privilege to implement her knowledge by working with ICICI bank Ltd. from 2003 to 2008. She was handling the credits cards operations. Then later she joined DEUTSCHE bank and worked there from 2009 to 2011.
Prof. Shetty has achieved a lot in life to be proud of other than her qualifications. She a true classical artist. She is trained in classical music and classical dance form. She not only can sing classical but also play classical instrument Jal Tarang. She a beautiful dancer and performs with a lot of grace KATHAK , the classical dance form. Ms. Shetty herself is dancer and hence, understands the passion and love for dance. She always encourages her students to come out of their shells and perform. After Ms. Shetty had joined our college, there has been an increase in such events which invites such form of talents. It is well said that ‘Ek Johari Hi Here Ki Asli Kimat Janta Hai’ which means a person who is talented can only understand the true value of talent.
Ms. Shetty is not just a good teacher but also was a very smart and good student. She was the 1st female General Secretary of her college, Lala Lajpatrai College of Commerce and economics. She was also the Chairperson then for Placement committee. She is not just good with studies but with sports too. She was an all rounder. She was good at whatever she did. Undoubtedly one can say that she is the best because she had won best student for Event Management skills at Narsee Morjee College. She also has shown the world that she can not only dance classical forms but also can perform any dance form. Prof. Shetty was the winner of the best couple dance in intra-college fest that she performed in the year 2007-2008.
Prof. Shetty is like a rainbow! Except for it doesn’t rain when she smiles. She is loving as a mother, strict as a father, protective as a brother and caring as a sister. She is a family when somebody needs one and always a friend. She plays with us different games so that she can unite the class. She always is fun. She always is there when one needs her. She is a very strong support system. She will always have your back. One can go to her anytime they want and she is always available to help. She teaches us to tackle situations without losing our calm.
In class room Prof. Shetty is the faculty who has knowledge and is there to share it with her students. Mr. Albert Einstein says ‘if you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.’ Miss. Shetty follows this saying very correctly and she believes in teaching her students with simple language that is easy to write, easy to read and easy to understand. She teaches us with more practicality than theory. She being from banking sector and teaching her students banking is pretty practical and keeps explaining things in much more in a practical manner which is very necessary for our subjects. It enables to use the banking facilities in much convenient manner. She doesn’t believe in teaching just from the books, she believes in sharing information and experiences related to the topic.
Ms. Shetty is very confident lady. She believes in what she does. She passes on this quality to her students. She has made us realise the importance of having a confident attitude. She believes that having confidence is half battle won. She believes in the saying ‘try and try till you succeed.’
Miss. Shetty is a very loving and lively person. There is a saying which says, ‘Past is a history future is a mystery and today is a present, so enjoy it’. She believes in the spirit of living every moment of life. She makes us understand the importance of life and how each day counts in it. She makes us believe that our future will be better and will be what we want it to become. She guides us about our future. Tells us to understand the past, observe the present and plan the future. She teaches us to be optimistic towards life.
Ms. Shetty is very dedicated professor. She teaches in the best way she can. She tries to simplify the studies. She makes studying more fun. Her friendliness and dedicated nature makes her a favourite amongst the crowd. One of the example of her dedication towards her job is that she with the help of our BMS co-ordinator had conducted a film festival in college FLAMBOYANT. The festival was conducted for the1st time and the film screening was a super hit. Many talented film aspirants were encouraged to participate and to screen their movies. That film fest was a hit in the college and especially in the BMS dept. The chief guests, the judges and everybody present there was more than satisfied with the event and Ms. Shetty once again showed off her event management skills brilliantly.
Within the college’s BMS department there had been a competition on presentation. This too was something which was initiated by Ms.Shetty. This presentation competition bought a lot of talent out from the crowd. There was a lot of competitive spirit. The competition was done in such high spirits that the winners and the runner ups really had a close call. This too helped the presenters improve their presentation skills. As there was time limit it also helped them to understand the need to work within time boundaries. This competition was a delight to watch because it bought immense talent from the presenters and for us as audience it taught us how new ideas and approaches can be used for presenting our subjects
Ms. Shetty has conducted various activities like the treasure hunt for the BMS students. She wants to use the acre of campus that Somaiya owns along with its other institution for this treasure hunt. There is a well planned Debate competition within the BMS. We also have a competition which focuses on the talent of the youth – a talent hunt competition. All sorts of new and upcoming talents will be encouraged. Ms. Shetty being our event head will help in conducting such a show. She will also join us for our industrial visit to the south. Everybody is hoping to see some new and adventurous events on the trip.
Last but not the least, the one quality that Ms. Shetty has is that she always takes pride in what she does. She always teaches her students to take pride in whatever they do. She always feels happy to see how well and good her students are. She takes pride in achievements of her students like a classmate of ours won the film festival and he often address her as his GODMOTHER and she takes pride in that because she is happy for him and is glad that he won it with her guidance.
Miss. Shetty is a very sweet, caring, humble and generous person. She is good professor. I being her student would like to build myself something similar to what she has. I too want to behold pride in my work. I too want to feel I am needed somewhere because of my talent. I think one also needs to learn how good and satisfied one must be with one’s life. All our faculty members believe that students should be encouraged to dream because people with great dreams build a greater nation. They encourage us to think free, think new, and be innovative, experiment with new things. Miss. Shetty and most of the professors truly believe in the saying which says the future of the nation will be how the youth of the nation is! So for a better and progressive nation as whole the youth must be well trained, well taught, well read, well educated, well mannered. These are some qualities that are needed by the youth and this is what we get in college from our professor. So we must be thankful and should encourage the professor to encourage the youth.
