What is Unbalanced Transportation Problem?

(i) When supply capacity of sources and requirement (demand) of destinations do not match a transportation problem is said to be unbalanced. An unbalanced problem can not be processed.
 
(ii) To eliminate imbalance, a dummy source or destination is created and shortfall in terms of supply or demand is allocated to dummy.
