An Interview with S.K. Malini, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper, G.N. Khalsa College (80.34%)
- Tell us about yourself
I’m doing BMS from G.N.Khalsa college. Simultaneously I am doing company secretary course. I have completed the foundation course with 66% and will be appearing for the executive level this June. I am writing entrance for MBA too. I am more interested in the field of HR. Just kept my options wide open.
- Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?
Well I have been topping my college since semester-2. But then as semester – 5 is a university exam. I really didn’t expect too as there were so many hurdles on my way but den I did. I am really happy for that.
The credit to my success goes to my parents who have all the time supported me and encouraged me and my elder sister who’s been the philosopher and guide in my whole life.
- Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?
Well I cannot say I was that sincere from day one but then still tried to do a little. I can just say that I had done a “smart study”.
- How did you allot time to different subjects? (Did you follow a self-made timetable? And how many hours did you study per day?)
I used to study for 4 hrs a day. I used to plan one theory and one practical subject and follow it alternatively but made it a point to practice the sums in FM and finance.
- Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?
Write your answers in points. Underline the important words which are required in your answer so that the examiner can know that you have understood the concepts properly. Don’t take much tension before exam. Be cool.
- Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?
Nope I don’t think you need to go for coaching classes. It’s a very easy portion and joining classes is a waste of time as self study is the best study.
- Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities? Do you think a BMS student can manage both studies and extra activities?
Yes a bms student can manage both.
- Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS?
Yes I am pursuing company secretary course and giving entrance exam for MBA. I have also done summer internship in BRESCON CORPORATE ADVICERS LTD.
- Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?
I used to do yoga if I am much stressed. I used to meet my friends and chill out. My family has also supported me in this by taking me to new places and hill stations for vacations.
- Do you think the number of Industrial visits should be increased for BMS Students? Which industries have you visited?
Well industrial visits are the most wonderful thing in bms. I used to love them. Our college have taken us to soo many places that we have always enjoyed them and to see and get the factory knowledge. We have visited to Silvassa, Jaipur, Surat, Bangalore-ooty-Mysore, Delhi-baddi- chandhigar.
- What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?
“Believe in yourself. If you have an aim in life and if you want to prove yourself then automatically you will achieve it.”
- What are the future plans post BMS?
C.S and MBA. I have kept my options wide. Will work for few years and have a dream to start my own business.
