- Tell us something about yourself?
By qualification I am a rocket scientist. Well, not really. I am an aerospace engineer from IIT Bombay. But I was always interested in web applications. I had a design studio during my college days, at which I built a lot of web applications and media content. That was my first startup. Post graduation, I worked as CTO at Pace education Pvt ltd. building an internal video conferencing solution and setting up digital library. Built a lot of digital content in the form of videos, simulations, animations and multi-player games.
- Tell us something about your business.
Tushky is a marketplace for free time. Its a new concept and we pioneered it. Its a marketplace, so it has buyers and it has sellers. Buyers are those who are looking to discover activities and things to do in their locality and sellers are those who have interesting activities to offer. Currently, there is no single go-to site where one can book an activity for a weekend, just like he or she can book a movie ticket. And we all know, planning for leisure sucks. We all end up going to dinner, movie or mall. Tushky wants to change that, and bring to you awesome interesting activities, that you can enjoy whenever you want to.
- What is your philosophy towards work?
Well, It’s the price you pay for freedom. Freedom really is when you do, what you want to do. And that’s going to happen when you love what you do. Don’t wait for the picture to emerge, believe in the right colors and the picture will be beautiful.
- Whom do you admire as your role model? And why?
That would be Amitabh Bachhan. Not for his voice or for his great acting skills. It would be because of his ability to bounce back from near bankruptcy. He saw the worst and came out with greater humility.
- “Management is core to every individual, organization & society.” Give your views on it.
That depends on how you define management. If you take the classical definition “The process of dealing with or controlling things or people”, I don’t think management is core. I would say chaos is the natural state and that’s core to every individual, organization & society. Our efforts are always towards reducing the chaos. The randomness or the chaos is what we try to avoid every day. Realization of how much randomness can you afford is a key to growth of every institution.

- According to you, what are the challenges for Entrepreneurship today?
Even today entrepreneurship is not the accepted norm in society. That’s the biggest tabboo, hurting entrepreneurship in India.
- Can Entrepreneurship be taught in B-Schools/Management Institutes/Colleges?
Theoretically yes, practically no. Its a skill you can’t learn unless you actually do it. Unless you have gone sleepless due to lack of traffic or due to a patchy release or due to a bad review or due to pure lack of funds, you can’t learn entrepreneurship. You have to jump in.
- Is the Name of the Institute from where a student pursues his/her Graduation/Post Graduation or other courses important while setting up your business?
In the early days, yes. Because in the early days, you are not credible. You have nothing to show. No one can easily trust you. So anything that can bring that inch of credibility to your name will help. Later, once you start proving yourself, nothing matters. In the end, its only the work.
- Do you think today’s economy is conducive for a new venture to start upon?
Economy is iterative. Its definitely conducive right now, compared to few years back but think about it, bad economy or good economy, companies have spawned. Entrepreneurs have launched great companies in worst of times. You may start the company today and there can be a bubble burst tomorrow, great companies/entrepreneurs sail through.
- “Earning more & more is the motive behind any business.” Is it justifiable?
This statement misses a word – “Value”
Earning more & more VALUE is the motive behind any business. The definition of value can vary from business to business. It is perfectly justifiable, in this form. Unless a business adds value and earns value out of an ecosystem, it is dead.
- Share with us the most enjoyable moment you had experienced on work.
The first invoice generated, which I went to deliver myself and the smell of first cheque that the client gave, is etched in my memory.
