Tell us more about yourself.-

Myself Avani Patel from Vivek College of Commerce. I love reading, listening to music, cooking, painting, spending time with friends.

Were you expecting to top in the exams? To whom would you credit this success to?

I wasn’t really expecting to top in the exams, but I have always been consistent in the previous semesters(stood 2nd or 3rd).I would credit my success to my parents , my friends and my professors who always helped me throughout.

Did you prepare religiously from day One or A few weeks before the exams?

I always started my preparations a few days before the exams. I focused more on internal exams, tried to score maximum marks which in turn helped me to increase my overall percentage.

How did you allot time to different subjects?

I concentrated more on practical subjects like special studies in finance, financial management, international finance and operations research, practiced a number of sums daily. (The more you practice, the more you score). For theory subjects I attended every lecture which made them easy to understand.

Can you share some insights on how to crack the subjects before exams?

For practical subjects, practicing various types of sums daily from every chapter will help (refer past papers). Theory subjects should be clearly understood, mugging up answers will only lead to confusion. Main points should be particularly underlined and writing answers in point form will always fetch more marks (presentation is crucial). Don’t just fill up your answer sheets, because at the end quality is what matters the most. For case studies, try to understand at first glance. Try to relate case studies with the topics that have been studied and  just summarize them in short.  Books of Vipul Prakashan and Himalaya publishing were found quite easy and simple.

Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?

Coaching classes for practical subjects can be of great help. I had joined classes for OR and IAPM.

Did you participate in college fests or extra-curricular activities? Do you think a BMS student can manage both studies and extra activities?

Yes, I was a part of promotion team and even anchored quiz competition of my college fest. It depends on students how well they can manage both studies and extra activities.

Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS?

No, I did not pursue any additional courses/internships alongside BMS.

Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?

Failure is the next step to success. One should have faith in his/her abilities and learn good lessons from failure. Just believe in yourself and the rest will surely fall into place.

Listening to music and spending time with friends is the best stress buster.

Do you think the number of Industrial visits should be increased for BMS Students? Which industries have you visited?

One industrial visit is sufficient as we already have our projects, assignments, internal exams which leave no time. I visited industries like Exide battery, Bombay dyeing, Auto enclave (IT), etc.

Do you think BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams round the clock? What changes would you like to bring in the BMS Curriculum?

I don’t think BMS students are flooded with assignments, projects and internal exams. In fact all these actually help us prepare for our final exam. I would like BMS curriculum to add more practical subjects. Assignments usually leave us with little time to study, thus it should be replaced with more presentations.

What message would you like to give to the next batch of BMS students?

I would like to tell the next batch of BMS students that don’t just study for the sake of exam. Be completely dedicated towards your goal. There’s only one growth strategy: Work hard-is what I strongly believe. Just stay positive and there is nothing you cannot accomplish. Good luck!

What are the future plans post BMS?

I am planning to work in a Bank and later pursue MBA.
