  • One of the best example of successful businessman in India is Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani.
  • Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani is the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance Industries which is one of the largest private sector enterprises in India.
  • He is the eldest son of late Dhirubhai Ambani who was the founder of Reliance Industries.
  • His younger brother Anil Ambani is another corporate biggie who runs the competing company Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) after his split in 2006 from Mukesh Ambani.
  • He is the first Indian to meet US President Barack Obama within a month of his taking office.
  • He was born on 19th April 1957 in Aden, Yemen and did his schooling from Abaay Morischa School in Mumbai.
  • He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the UDCT (now Chemical Technology), Mumbai.
  • Later, he enrolled for an MBA from Stanford University but dropped out in 1980.
  • After following his father’s footsteps, he made the company a global entity and setup Reliance Infocomm Limited.
  • He invested in overseas acquisitions and sticked to building Greenfield assets that deliver 20 percent returns on investment.
  • He is an optimist futurist at heart and holds ‘inclusive’ growth and ‘value’ addition as the key propellers of India’s economic prosperity.
  • In 2004, he was awarded World Communication Award by Total Telecom.
  • In 2007, he was awarded the United States-India Business Council Leadership Award and Chitralekha Person of the Year Award by Gujarat Government.
  • In 2010, he was awarded the School of Engineering and Applied Science Dean’s Medal by the University of Pennsylvania.
  • He was ranked 42nd among the World’s Most Respected Business leaders and second among the 4 Indian CEOs in a survey conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers and published in Financial Times.
  • In 2010, he is ranked 13th in Asia’s Power 25 list of The Most Powerful People and the Forbes magazine named him among “68 people who matter most”.
  • In 2011, he is the second richest man in Asia and 9th richest man in the world.
  • He is a member of the board of directors of Bank of America Corporation and a present member of the international advisory board of the Council on Foreign Relations.
  • He is a former Chairman of the IIM – Bangalore.
  • He is an Honorary Fellow of IChemE (the Institute of Chemical Engineers).
  • He also owns the IPL (Indian Premier League) team, the Mumbai Indians.
  • He represents a bold image of Indian business sector that is urban, evolving and revolutionary.
