The Rotract Club of our college organised a visit to SHANTI ASHRAM, Near Panvel, Mumbai on 27 July 2014. There were about 100 students who voluntarily came forward to spare their valuable time with those loving kids including the office bearers and the faculty members Mr Mubeen and Mr Gordan .
There were 20 kids of age group of 1year to 15 years who were managed and taken care by Rev. S. Rajendran who cared and nurtured them as a father and treated them as his own children. There were separate rooms for girls and boys, separate kitchen for them and even a library for them to study. They were been educated by Mr Rajendra by sending them to schools and places of learning.
Those small little kids were so happy and delighted to see all of us in a large number. They sat with us, danced on different Bollywood songs to express their happiness. They were happy to see that they were been loved by all. Even though they did not say anything but their innocence and the way they sang songs and danced said it all that it made them cheerful. Different sweets and biscuits that we offered them and clicking pictures with them made them wanted us to stay longer and spend more time.
One such girl I would really like to mention about is Pinki who was a 15 years old girl. From the authorities and Mr Rajendra we got to know that this girl never used to smile and be all depressed all the time due to some past experiences. It was really pleasure to see a smile on her face that day. Also among the many one such innocent kid was Peter who was 5-6 years old who had a such a good talent of dancing. HATTS OFF TO HIM!
Apart from the ones who visited, each and every student of our college had given contributions in the form of old clothes, stationary items, toys, eatables like chocolates, toffees etc and some small amount of cash donated by all the students.
Friends, By the grace of God, We may have a very good life, state of living, everything. We may even have high dreams and ambitions in life, we may get very good jobs and reach very high positions. But the pleasure and happiness which you get by helping others, the one’s who are in need is just different. These children are the ones who knows the real meaning of” LIFE” I am absolutely sure that pleasure or that happiness which you feel inside your heart is something very different and won’t come even if you become highly successful. Don’t just have sympathy to them realize and help them because “they are just like us, HUMANS!” Make them you friends and give them your love and care. They will never say but as sometimes actions speak stronger than words they will always remember you throughout their life and above all you will remember you did something good, for someone in the society. When you do something good for the society, society pays in some or the other.
It was really a remarkable experience, visiting those children and spending time with them. Words are just not enough to describe how beautiful the experience was I would rather call it a PERFECT SUNDAY!. I’m really thankful to TOLANI COLLEGE OF COMMERCE for giving us such opportunities which not only believes in imparting bookish knowledge but to make us a better human being. Last but not the least I would really express my heartfull gratitude to Mr Mubeen for his support and motivation. I am sure such visits are organised in future as well.
THANK YOU
