Acupressure is a Chinese Therapy oriental massage in which fingers are pressed on particular points of the body to ease aches, pains, tension, fatigue and symptoms of disease. Acupressure is basically, Acupuncture without needles. When most of the medicines leave back in numerous side effects, Acupressure promises care with no call backs. However, most of us are unaware about the healing power of acupressure since we are surrounded by getting ourselves treated with allopathy or homeopathy.
Ideally, Acupressure is best used not to cure disease but to maintain health, vitality and stamina in the body, to strengthen the internal organs and prevent energy from getting blocked. Acupressure when performed skilfully can relieve many kinds of chronic problems and disable aches and pains. For example, to ease a headache we can apply pressure and stimulation in the legs and arms. Acupressure is practiced by many individuals who can guide you to correctly perform the treatment on yourself.
Acupressure points are located along the ‘meridian lines’, the fourteen channels through which the body’s energy flow. These channels are invisible but one who is getting treated is conscious of a surge of energy through these lines while he or she is being manipulated. Acupressure practitioners use their fingers, palms, elbows or feet, or special devices to apply pressure to acupoints on the body’s meridians. Sometimes, acupressure also involves stretching or acupressure massage, as well as other methods.
Currently, there is no evidence in western medical science to support the theories upon which acupressure and similar therapies are based. However, a number of recent studies have been conducted to investigate the use of acupressure in the temporary relief of nausea and headache pain. Some of these studies suggest that applying pressure to certain points causes the brain to release more endorphins, small proteins that act as a natural painkiller.
Thus, next time you have such smaller headaches or joint paints, consult an acupressurist instead of having allopathic medicines. You never know, this might be the healthiest step in curing your existing problem!
