A democracy is, like we have studied in school, ‘of the people, for the people and by the people. But more than that, it is what we make of it. It is where people are the rulers, where people have the power to overthrow the government.
A democracy should be where welfare of the people forms the crux of the system of belief. Where people have a parallel government of their own. Where people are vigilant, aware and active. It should epitomize a constant struggle.
And then, there is India where every politician loots the country and is in a dirty rat race. The politicians think of themselves to be the undisputed owners of the country. The feel powerful enough to do what they want.
Now the question arises is of intention. Is there a basic intention to serve people? To make things right? That is when great leaders walk in. But there is a tremendous scarcity of them in our country.
Every person who has even an iota of power is able to disrupt the peace. They seem to think that the police force, the officials are all mere puppets. And they should not be questioned. Any person trying to raise a voice is ‘shut’ instantly. That is why such a n obscene amount of transfers.
And if that isn’t enough, we have criminals contesting elections sitting behind bars, enjoying their life and still managing to win. People, sort of, have a blind faith in their so-called leaders.
A little amount of power, and people go astray. It truly reflects our morals and principles. We are being oppressed for years. It’s time we rose from this long slumber….
