So Ladies, Gentlemen and…….those undecided. (:
15th May was kind of a big deal. It was………(DRUMROLL) the début of Dream Organisers, an event management company started by my friends and me. And what better than Battle Of The Strings to bring out the BANG ..!
The Rock Band competition, we organised, hosted the bands Bharmm, Astravidh, Qafia, Natural Volume and Sparsh, who were judged by Rahul Ram of the Indian Ocean fame and Nirdosh Sobti (winner of MTV Rock On season 1).
What’s effing crazy is, that we planned and executed all of this in about a month’s time. I mean seriously, how awesome are we..? 😛
But really, it was fucking exhilarating to watch everything we planned, come to life. A little bolted maybe, but then again, what’s life without a little crazy….? eh..? *with a fake canadian accent* 😛
The event kicked off (a tad bit later than the pre-decided time) with Sparsh crooning Baadal their OC entry into the competition, and progressing to a desi version of In My Place (Coldplay).
Sparsh
Natural Volume took to stage with Bandeh for their sound check, Ya Maula (OC) and Humma(their own desi version) and stood first runners-up in the competition.
Natural Volume
Bhramm rocked the crowd and stole the freakin’ show with Raavana, their self-composed track and their own rendition of the Shaktimaan theme song..! (I made sure I wasn’t backstage during their performance. Blame my curiosity I just wanted to know what it would be like ever since I found out they were doing it 😛 ) And bloody good, they were..! I know, ’cause I sat in the first row. 😀
Bhramm
Following them Astravidh with Be yourself by Audioslave for the Desi rock track challenge and Jaago, their self-composed track.
Lastly there were Qafia, who, with their original composition by the same name, gained many fans. And insistently (despite warning bells, and requests by the crew) did two sound checks within their performance which I would respect only if I wasn’t on the recieving end :P. They did a desi rock rendition of Dil Se, and won the second runners-up position.
Qafia
Chaitanya Bhaidkar from Natural Volume, won a Greg Bennett for being the best guitarist in the competition!
Chaitanya Bhaidkar
Not many know this, but Rahul Ram was quite undecided between Bedhan Rai from Bhramm and Chaitanya for the title, however in the end it went to the former..! I only wished that Furtados was kind enough to provide us with two guitars to give out ’cause that would make me happy, somehow. 😛
Bedhan Rai
And then it all ended. Which was sad.
And I also hurt myself while keeping the equipments..! A fairly huge wound on my ankle that bled like crazy (couldn’t walk properly, even the next day :/ ) and a long red gash on my left hand. SUCKS.
[And what was baffling was that there was not ONE SINGLE PLACE where I could get a Red Bull or a Cloud 9, before the show..! it felt like, the universe was onto me :/]
Anyhoo, thanks to everyone for having made the evening possible: the amazing bands that came with truckloads of talent, Rahul Ram who is just awesome in person! And of course, The Team. (:
And definitely NOT the sound guy. 😛
All in all, good show! First of MANY.
P.S: If I wasn’t clear enough, Bhramm was the winning band…! And really, my description doesn’t do their performance any justice..! 🙂
