Reporting about a new smartphone daily makes me feel that making and selling smartphones is the only tech business left in the world. The Indian smartphone market is the fastest growing smartphone market globally and is witnessing fierce competition with a large number of firms launching their products at various prices to tap the multi-billion dollar opportunity here.
Another tech major to enter is the Taiwanese tech major Asus. The tech giant is all set to expand its presence in India with the introduction of its ZenFone smartphones. To start with, the company will first launch three smartphones – ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, ZenFone 6 in the mid and premium segments. Asus already sells PadFone and MemoPad voice calling tablets in India.
The Zenfone 4 features a 4-inch WVGA TFT display. It runs on Intel’s Atom Z2520 processor clocked at 1.2GHz along with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that can be extended with a microSD card slot. It also features a 5-megapixel camera and a 1,170mAh battery. It supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth 4.0. It comes with dual micro-SIM card slots.
The Indian version of Zenfone 5 features Intel’s Atom Z2560 processor clocked at 1.6GHz with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Like the name suggests, it has a 5-inch display with 720p resolution. With this phone, Asus is introducing what it calls a PixelMaster camera, which registers up to 400 percent brighter photos and videos in low-light conditions by reducing the resolution. The Zenfone 5 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera for selfies. It has a 2,050mAh battery.
The Zenfone 6 sports a 6-inch 720p display and runs on the Intel Atom Z2580 processor clocked at 2GHz. It will come in 8GB and 16GB variants with 1GB or 2GB of RAM. The Zenfone has a 13-megapixel f/2.0 PixelMaster rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. It comes with a 3,230mAh battery.
