Bandra, as rightly called is The Fashion Queen of Mumbai. And why not? From crop tops to one pieces, Indian wears to miniskirts; slippers, casuals shoes, traditional and formal shoe wears; accessories and bags, everything that’s fashionable and pleasing is sold right on the streets. Bandra’s Linking Road & Hill Road streets stalls overflows with people and a fusion of modern and traditional garments, accessories and varieties of ladies shoe shops/stalls continuous in a row. All the Products sold here are cheaper compared to any stores in Mumbai and one can still have best bargain for the required material.
The street stalls tend to be grouped together according to the type of goods they sell. You’ll come accross Indian traditional clothes first, followed by shoes, then bags and belts. Further along Linking Road is the territory of the brand name stores. Chunky jewellery, trendy clothes and colouful footwear welcomes you to Hill Road, a street that gives you ample choices to stock up your wardrobe in style. The sheer variety of merchandise and styles on offer can be bewildering. Therefore, it’s recommended that you first take a good look around before buying anything.
These two streets are also haven for accessories, belts and street food like spicy and tangy pani-puri, bhelpuri and sev puri, as also regular coffee shops and food joints that get their share of dedicated clientele. The road is always thronged by people, starting from college youngsters dressed in hot pants to burqa clad ladies, from foreigners to outstation visitors. This is not surprising as the market has everything for everyone.
If you are keen on buying stuff from these streets, just remember that bargaining is the key word. As a thumb rule that, of course, doesn’t apply in the branded stores, don’t pay more than half the quoted price. If you are not good at bargaining, forget about coming here. Don’t be in a hurry to buy. If you are getting a clutch for Rs.150, in the next shop you might get it just for Rs.100. Patience is the key and to get the best item at the best price, you need to put in some efforts.
Linking and Hill roads are fun and ideal place to enjoy street shopping in Bandra.
