India is home to several cuisines. Every state has its own food style and specialty. There is an advantage of being in Mumbai. Most of the Indian cuisines are available in Mumbai but the most famous or the one which is loved by all in Mumbai is south Indian cuisine. In Mumbai it is famously available across various chains serving fast-food. On every station in Mumbai one will come across an ‘Udupi’ joint which for years would be serving south Indian dishes. They are known for quick service, quality food at reasonable price, hot and fresh food, etc. At anytime whether it’s in the morning or afternoons or evenings these ‘Udupi’ joints are always bustling with crowd hungry for idli, vada’s, dosas, etc.

There are 2 categories of south Indian restaurants in India. One is where you get only snacks, and one where you get your means (lunch/dinner) and there are few where you get both.
Here is a list of some of Mubai’s best and famous restaurants for south Indian food.

Madras Caf̩: РOne of the best south Indian restaurant in Mumbai is located at Matunga (central)
One must try the butter dosa and also the curd-rice. And to end it, have filtered coffee which is the best. Do try the famous paan it’s a bit spicy but good. It’s a very small restaurant but visit it if you like simplicity.

Banana Leaf: – Wada, Uppama, Idli, Dosa are some of the most popular and Banana Leaf serves them up very well on a freshly cut banana leaf. What is different about Banana Leaf is that along with the usual way these food are served and house specialities, they offer many unusual combinations like potato and cheese stuffing in medu wada,  khata meetha tomato idli, spinach cheese garlic dosa, coconut honey dosa, beet root uttappam. The menu also includes veg dishes, rice plates, chef special items, and thalis. They have a good selection of desserts, fresh fruit juices, and lassis round out the menu. Do visit if you are game for experimenting with the traditional south Indian items.

Shiv Sagar:- It is a very famous eatery well known for its veg food. It’s located at Churchgate, Juhu, Vile Parle East and many more locations in Mumbai. Their mysore masala dosa and cheese dosa’s are classic. One could even try the spring or Chinese dosa here. The idli-wada is a all timer at this place with most of the people opting for it.

Dakshinayan: – It is located in Juhu next to the famous Iskon temple. Try the rava garlic masala dosa, gunpowder idli, rasam vada. The chutneys and sambar are pretty good and compliment the ghee cooked cuisines very well. It is a moderately priced place for the quality and juhu locality. This place has excellent service but mostly crowded especially on weekends.

Next time instead of going to your regular locality joint try one of these.
