    Revolution 2020 is a Chetan Bhagat’s fifth book and the most criticized book. The story has its own usual way. Chetan Bhagat is prominently known to bring some real life events in his book. Well this is true as in Revolution 2020,it is the most talked about topic in India,’Corruption’.
Chetan Bhagat visited the Ganga Tech College in Varanasi to deliver a speech. There, he met Gopal, the 26 year old protagonist who has achieved great success in life, surrounded himself with lots of money and yet leading an unhappy life. The same day Gopal invited Bhagat for a drink to which Bhagat agreed. After an overdose of alcohol, Gopal had been admitted in the hospital where he started to narrate his own past to Chetan. The story hence starts unfolding here.
Three childhood friends, Gopal, Raghav and Aarthi have different aspirations in life. Gopal wanted to become rich, Raghav wanted to bring about a global political change while Aarthi wanted to be an air hostess.
Revolution 2020 has very little of what the name says. Chetan Bhagat is however appreciated for of taking steps to providing youthful solution of reducing the corruption. What this book lacks is humour as compared to his book ‘2 States’ which carries racist humour.
In his book, Revolution 2020, Chetan Bhagat has very well portrayed the life of a student who went to another city for studies but failed in his education. He has also very cleverly combined the Indian Education System with corruption. Gopal cribbing about not getting a very good rank is a scenario of our Indian education system, which most of us even face today. He has described the reality of the world where our fate of life is chosen by the ranks we get than we choosing it.
The protagonist Gopal then plans to set up his very own business, that is, Ganga Tech College in Varanasi with the help of an MLA Shukla, using his powers. Well,this seems to be the reality of even today where private tutorials are given more importance tan schools and colleges,making them into private business. The main aim is just to earn money rather than imparting proper education. Gopal pays bribes to everyone coming across his way in order to save his Engineering College from the government officials to the faculties in the college. He finally achieved his dream of becoming rich.
On the other side, Raghav succeeds in his exams, becomes a journalist and starts his own newspaper called ‘Revolution 2020’ in which he published an article about the Ganga Treatment Scam and proved that Shukla was a corrupt man. Aarthi caught between the love of both her friends switched from one to another due to the twists that came up in the story. The ending is resolved when Aarthi gets married to Raghav while Gopal wishes for their happy life.
Though many readers disliked the ending, I would prefer Gopal and Aarthi getting married which would have the made the ending into a merrier one.
