The 1st Social Leaders Summit
The Leadership Mumbai Needs
The potential that Mumbai has as a city is only matched by its gigantic problems. The city we call our home has a long way to go before its quality of life becomes acceptable. Reform and change in the city has been languishing and our elected representatives have been able to make only limited impact. From our end as citizens, there is little that we are doing as well.
As Mumbai prepares to elect its representatives for the next 5 years, it’s time to ask ourselves some very important questions. Find some inspiring answers. And kickstart some powerful conversations.
The 1st Social Leaders Summit brings together remarkable individuals from a variety of disciplines to answer the big question – what leadership do we as a city need? These speakers will take their insights and experience in leadership and share how these can be applied to solve issues facing the city. They will end with a set of action points and project ideas that our audience can apply immediately.
With a crisp TED-based 18 minutes per-speaker format, the event will feature 10 prominent speakers. The audience will primarily be participants of the Social Leaders Program – a service learning program where students go through leadership education and take up a social project. Based on the capacity of the venue, the event will also be open to students of the host institution and general public.
The ideas generated in this event will give birth to a whole set of projects and actions taken by citizens towards a better city. This event is a part of ‘My Mumbai’ – a long term project to improve the quality of life in the city, by fostering civic action and building communities.
As a part of this project, the current batches of the Social Leaders Program are doing voter mobilization and citizen dialogues in 16 municipal wards. Art4Mumbai has students using art for civic engagement – street plays and songs performed at various public places to create conversations around the city we want.
This event is organized by the Blue Ribbon Movement – a social enterprise that creates and nurtures social leaders.
The Summit is on Saturday, 28 Jan from 2 pm to 7 pm at Ramnarain Ruia college . You can know more about the event and speakers on www.facebook.com/blueribbonmovement
