A highly respected philosopher has said that the seven sins of current times are:-
Ø Business without morality
Ø Politics without principles
Ø Education without character
Ø Worship without sacrifice
Ø Wealth without hard work
Ø Human existence without regard for scriptures and
Ø Devotion without austerity
Business ethics helps a manager to morally take decisions as it presents the rights and wrongs, do’s and don’ts and pros and cons of particular situation so we can say that organizations try their optimum to follow business ethics and it is never concluded as results are always partial. Rest is in the eyes of beholder whether the particular decision is correct or not. Business and ethics are generally opposing in nature. However, a businessman’s main motive should be to earn profit as well as maintain harmonious relationships with the society and environment.
Hence, one can say that organizations can follow ethics.
I agree that there is a difference between theoretical and practical aspects of ethics. Hence, to reduce these differences, improvements need to be done. Eg – Ethical committees; hotlines exist in theories but in coming years to make such improvements may help in meeting organizational competition.
Ethical behaviour enhancement checklist can be prepared and affirmative actions can be implemented.
