Narendra Modi is one of the most dynamic leaders India could come across in a very long time. He is known for having changed Gujarat’s economic status and has made the next prominent hub in India for industrialists to invest. Therefore Gujarat is regarded as the fastest progressing state in India having a per-capita GDP 3.2 times India’s average.
The 600 MW solar power park, known as Asia’s first and largest solar power park in the state’s Patan district in Charanka village while other projects have been developed at Anand, Banaskantha, Jamnangar, Junagadh, Kutch, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surat, and Surendranagar,, dedicated to India by Gujarat’s charismatic leader Narendra Modi. This project included 84 registered project developers, some of the major developers being Kiran Energy Solar Power Private Limited & Adani Power Ltd. The investment cost for the Charanka solar park amounts to US$280 million for the entire functional operations, engineering, procurement & maintenance of the park.
The solar power park with a power generation capacity of 600 MW, spreading over 3,000 acres of wasteland bordering the Rann of Kutch, will generate two-thirds of India’s total 900 MW of solar power production. Therefore, for a known fact Gujarat produces India’s 66% of total solar power generation. This was another major step towards promoting clean energy and reducing India’s fear of increasing greenhouse gas levels. According to the Gujarat government, the solar project will lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions to the tune of eight million tonnes and save 900,000 tonnes of natural gas annually & is estimated to complete in 2013 after its commencement of work in 3rd December, 2012.Under its Solar Power Policy(6th January,2009) the state government had signed memorandums of understanding for generation of 968.5 MW of solar power by the end of 2012 & as on19th April 2012, 214 MW had been commissioned.
The Gujarat Solar Park is embarked as one of the leading historical infrastructure developments which has given the state a positive lead in terms of their Economy & Solar Power generation. It was made sure that power evacuation, water for commissioning of the power & other infrastructural necessities were provided at the earliest. The largest solar power park was set up in a record time of one year. When the state was ready with its own “Solar Power Policy-2009”, Narendra Modi remarked that it was also time for the Central Government of India to take solar power generation to formidable levels & electrify the dark nation. Due to these efforts by the Gujarat Government, the cost of solar power had immensely decreased by Rs 6.50 to Rs 8.50 per unit. With further efforts in improvement of technology and regulations the Gujarat changemaker, Modi was sure of the prices per unit being more affordable to project developers at cheaper rates.
The Charanka Solar Park at Gujarat is one of the first leading steps initiated to meet the India’s mission to achieve 15% of clean energy annually by 2020, though now it stands at a mere 6%. This project has provided our mother nation a ray of hope & very strong visionary goal set up which is achievable in a country where there are plenty of green energy resources to tap on.
