Interview with Shaikh Farheen Gulzar, TYBMS Sem 5 Topper 2013-14, Joshi Bedekar College who scored 79.57%.
How does it feel to be a Topper in the university exams? Whom will you credit your success to? What was your success mantra?
It was expected by me that I will top in the exam till the FM exam, but after giving that paper I was really hoping that I will get a KT in FM. But thanx to god it was not so. The credit goes to my parents for believing in me and my teachers and specially my friend who has taught me FM.
Did you prepare any timetable and please share your study strategy/exam tips to crack each subject of sem 5?
Yes, I have made time table for my self-studies. My Time table motivates me to complete the things on time, otherwise I used to feel “ kal karenge and baad me karenge”.
I suggest we all must have proper time table for study so that everything will be done on time.
Do you think BMS student require coaching classes or is self-study enough? Had you joined any coaching class for a particular subject?
I think classes are needed for FM and SSF, but self study is needed as well to crack the exams efficiently. No, I had not joined any kind of classes I have studied my own and my friend have taught me FM and SSF, but frankly it was very difficult for me to study by my self specially subjects like FM and SSF.
What was your specialization subject? Why did you opt for it?
I have opted for finance, because I am interested in that field, but I like marketing too.
Can you list the textbooks you referred for all subjects?
For hrm n logistics, I have referred Rishabh publication’s book.
For fm n ssf, I have referred Navigators classes notes.
For BE n SSm I have referred notes provided by my college teachers.
Which was your worst paper? Why? Which was your best paper? Why?
My worst paper was FM because I was totally blanked at that time and was not able to solve any question properly, but I have attempted the whole paper & fortunately I got good marks in that. The SSM was a good paper but unfortunately I have not read 1 question properly and did a mistake and wrote a wrong answer for 10 marks. So I suggest you all to not to repeat such silly things, read the question properly and then start writing it.
Today, we often come across students committing suicide out of failure, depression or tension of exams. What do you have to say about this? Did you use any special techniques for stress management?
Yeah stress management is very much essential. Whenever I feel stressed, I just read Namaz and pray to Allah to give me the strength to come out form such stress.
It is advisable to all that meditate yourself, when you feel low or stressed.
Other than this talk with your parents, tell them your problems their love will definitely motivate you.
The Black Book project contributing a significant part to the percentage, please share the experiences you had during the preparation of the project and how has it benefited you.
That project was really amazing, it has helped me in getting knowledge about the real corporate world which is far different from our bookish studies. Though I have not scored the expected marks in it, but it was good.
Did you pursue any additional courses/ internships alongside BMS? What are your future plans?
No I was concentrating on TYBMS only, n I m planning to complete my MBA in finance.
Any tips and advises for your juniors?
Please read the question paper carefully and then start writing it, don’t leave any answer, if you don’t know or not confirmed just attempt it may be it will be right. Make time tables, take the guidance of your teachers in making it, solve FM and SSF daily, especially solve the case studies properly and solve different kind of case studies.
For theory subjects do attend your college lectures and listen to the teachers, it will help you to clear your concepts and once your concepts are clear you can just remember the points and can write the answer on your own.
its really proud moment
