BMS course is the management education provided at undergraduate level offered by Mumbai University so that the students can exploit all the available opportunities in management profession like private, corporate sector in export-import departments, governmental organizations, all India institutions like Export-Import, commercial banks, financial institutions, multinational companies all over in India and abroad.
Do you think BMS today is really achieving its objectives?
According to the students generally, BMS course is as same as B.com and other such under graduate courses with some changes in syllabus and fees pattern. At the time of campus recruitment, students from Bms, B.com and other such under graduate courses apply for the same post in the same organization. There is no difference in selection for employing the students from Bms and other courses. However, the placements do not seem to be happening separately for a Bms student barring a few exceptions. This forces the student to pursue further education as if post graduation courses like MBA, MMS, etc same as what B.com and other under graduate courses students do. If this is the situation after doing Bms the student could have paid comparatively lesser fee and could have completed their graduation from B.com.
The changes to made:
- Entrance examinations should be hold at the time of process of seeking admission.
- After admission, options for the students to opt for specialization subjects (sales, marketing, finance, HR etc) right from the first year and impart education in detail according to the subject opted.
- Practical methods of teaching are to be undertaken.
- Instead of giving notes, faculties should just make the concept clear and make the student prepare notes for themselves, as it would foster his ability to think.
- Presentation topics should base on organization, its problems, techniques, principles, etc. rather than chapters of syllabus.
- Â Regular interview session should organize with entrepreneurs around.
- Students should make compulsory to hold events on their own with the guidance of staffs.
- Learn business skills practically.
- Committee projects ( other than presentations is to be made in groups)
- Field visits for students
- Â Exchange program with different B-schools and colleges from different states.
All these will enable graduates to Gain a good grounding in business and makes them focus on strong communication, people skills and various knowledge relating to management, which would make student work within a variety of organizations.
