On the second weekend of the Barclays English Premier League, Everton played Arsenal at Goodison Park. This was a game where Everton had a chance to get a win against Arsenal and prove that they can challenge big teams again but they let their lead slip and the match ended as a draw again. The match ended 2-2 after a late equalizer by Olivier Giroud to earn Arsenal a point.
Everton came into this game with a draw against Leicester in the first premier league match while Gunners had a disappointment mid-week against Besiktas after a goalless draw in the Champions’ League Qualifier but did win their first Premier League game 2-1 against Crystal Palace. Everton look for the top 4 challenge and it is important to get points early in the season especially against big teams. Arsenal are said to be title challengers this season but still not favortites and after the last two game performances, they surely need to improve to get ahead of likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
Everton had a great start and at the end of the first half they had a pretty good lead of 2-0 with goals from Seamus Coleman and Steven Naismith. Arsenal had to respond back and they did in the second half where they started to control the game and were the better side compared to Everton who had a great first half. The goals for gunners were not coming with substitute Olivier Giroud missing a lot of chances which a world class striker might have scored.
It was Aaron Ramsey who scored at the 83rd minute. He has scored 2 late goals in 2 games but still Arsenal needed to score 2 more goals in 7 minutes to win the game. The game was ending as an Everton win but at the very last minute of the game it was Olivier Giroud who finally scored after missing a few chances and the game ended 2-2 which each team taking a point in their second game in the English Premier League.
