FOX’s forthcoming Batman prequel TV series ‘Gotham‘ has largely reworked footage of its September 22 pilot premiere in the most recent trailers, but the latest look at our new DC drama proves the most tantalizing yet. See the good, the evil and the beginning of FOX’s ‘Gotham,’ along with a potential Joker tease in the latest spot for the new Batman drama!
“This is my city,” teases Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon in The Hollywood Reporter‘s ‘Gotham’ spot debut, amid new footage that sees Gordon investigating a crime scene observed by the likes of Donal Logue’s Harvey Bullock, Camren Bicondova’s Selina Kyle, Robin Taylor’s Oswald Cobblepot, Cory Michael Smith’s Edward Nygma and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Fish Mooney. The war hero detective continues:
I’ve come back, because I care what’s happening to it. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who cares. This town is at a tipping point. Crime and corruption ooze from every corner. Someone needs to take a stand against it all, and that is where we come in.
Most notably, Gordon finds a torn newspaper page at the murder scene that headlines his own return, though the ominously red-scrawled “Welcome Home” teases a sinister mystery to his ascent through the ‘Gotham’ police department. The writing almost undoubtedly intends to evoke ‘The Dark Knight”s Joker warnings, while unsubstantiated rumors of ‘Gotham’ teasing Joker origins throughout the first season made rounds on the internet today.
The new series will explore “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon (McKenzie) and the villains that made Gotham famous,” with its pilot focusing on Gordon’s investigation of the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The pilot was written and executive produced by Bruno Heller (‘The Mentalist’), along with Warner Bros. Television, and directed by ‘Judge Dredd’ helmer Danny Cannon.
FOX’s ‘Gotham’ also stars Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Victoria Cartagena and Andrew Stewart-Jones as Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen, ‘Burn Notice‘ star Zabryna Guevara as Gordon’s GCPD boss Captain Essen, and Erin Richards as Gordon’s fiancée Barbara Kean.
