Guru Nanak Jayanti is a Sikh Festival also called as “Guru Purab” or “Day of Guru”.
History-
Guru Nanak ji lived from 1469 to1539, but still live in the Sikh hearts. He is a saint and was poet, philosopher and founder of the Sikh religion. He showed a great interest in God and nature and spoke of divine things. He traveled widely and proclaimed that all men were equal in the eyes of God and religious distinctions should not create divisions among human beings. Guru Nanak asked his followers to pray to Supreme God.
Guru Nanak Dev was the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus and founder of the Sikh religion.
Guru Nank Jayanti is marked by prabhat pheris or early morning processions that begins from the gurudwaras and then moves to different localities singing hymns or shabads. The celebration lasts for three days.
