  • Tell us about yourself

My name is Adit Kadakia. I’m from Mumbai city and have completed my graduation from Mumbai’s Lala Lajpat Rai College in the year 2013, securing 68% in semester 6 and aggregate percentage of 69%. I’m currently working with Intertech Fittings Pvt since 2 years as a Junior Manager. I’m handling and managing the staff and the day to day activities like getting materials ready and exporting them. I like making friends and whenever I make a presentation I like to make it in a team because you can show your skills and talent that you have. I like to play cricket and my favorite team is India and West Indies. My all time favorite players are Virat Kholi and Chris Gayle. I find new gadgets in the market and also find ways were we could help others to get knowledge about the gadgets that are upcoming so that anyone can think before buying. I like driving especially in the rains and when I am out of town.

  • Tell us about your BMS college

Lala Lajpat Rai College is the college where I studied for 5 years and also graduated with a very good percentage. This college is located near Mahalaxmi Race course and is a very famous college for BMS. The faculty in this college is like superb for the first two years, but the last year was horrible, few teachers were changed, and I could never understand how one professor could finish a 4 month portion in just like 1.5 months. He gave us low marks in internals. I cannot forget our co-ordinator Pujari Sir who helped us in all fields and encouraged us to study more and more accurately. This college had a decent canteen which was always crowded and how can someone forget Raju Bhai’s samosas sandwich and samosa pav in the canteen – this is what every collegian used to have almost everyday. We always went to Sobos central or Phoenix mills to chill around. About Lala’s infrastructure, it was nicely built with AC classes and it had a computer room and a library. The crowd was just great, talking about BMS, it was just awesome and festivals we had BMS week and BMS fest Tsunami which was like the best fest in Mumbai and every college which is waiting for. If I had that one thing to change it would be the crowd of B.Com because if that is good then Lalas can have a good reputation like the other colleges have.

  • Share your most memorable moments at BMS College

We attended Ms. Kamat’s lecture, she use to teach us IMTP and her lecture was like the most funny lectures, where people passed comments, never listened to her and troubled her. When giving presentations we would always read from the laptop and we would always fool her and get more marks. She was the funniest teacher we ever had.

During exams I got calls from every bmsite and it was just “kal paper mei kya hai” “Boss importance de” I always used to get something and used to study what I felt was 100% in the paper and I always told people the opposite and I would laugh at them when they said “tu Jo bola kuch nahi aya”. I said reading everything is pointless go through the last years papers because these teachers don’t have time to set papers because they have a lot of work. This trick always helped me and my friends.

  • What during BMS and after BMS?

According to me doing bms is like a shortcut of bcom, so it doesn’t matter what line you take, but BMS is just like a name and people have hyped it. I feel if one takes bms then one cannot do any other side course because bms has a lot of projects and seminars and exams that it does not give students time to prepare for any other course. If someone is brilliant then they could take up a course like CS but I don’t think one can imagine of taking it. During bms one can work as an intern. College normally provides placements, if not timesjob, naukri, monsterindia these websites would help you all to get placements somewhere or the other. Try and ignore those seminars for placements because they are looking for ultra brilliant people and they end up taking no one. I say if u are in the best of colleges then do attend seminars because they have good contacts with these companies, so u might get one.

Talking about “what after bms” it totally depends upon u. What exactly you want to study? One can do FAM,MCOM,MBA….many other courses to be done after BMS or say any degree. If one thinks about USA then GMAT and TOFEL are the two exams one needs to crack, GMAT is the toughest one can crack, tofel anyone can crack. I am currently appearing for GMAT from times and I find it toughest because frankly I don’t practice but if u practice it regularly then u can score anything above 650. Make sure if u doing GMAT then take this task at your final exam and crack it. If one wants to do it in India then CMAT, CAT and sometimes GMAT is also taken into consideration. For UK and other countries IELTS is like TOFEl, so it easy to pass and MBA is a one year degree, but no placement guarantee. Placement in the US is like, it totally depends on the economy and recession, if this is not the problem one can get jobs but not easily they give more preference to their citizens then others.

  • What advice/tips do you have for BMS undergraduates?

Studying from the very first day doesn’t make sense because in my college I got the question bank and we studied just the question bank. If you all don’t get to read the whole book, read only what u think is right and mark the important lines and paragraphs. Please keep tuitions for accountancy and operational research and international finance. These subjects are very important and the more you practice and the best it is. Internals give all 3 and score max and rest leave it to the college they would give u on your performance.

Try and take less part in these festivals because it disturbs your studies and it only builds contacts and one can make friends. But once you are out of college no one is interested whether you were the president CC or VC of any department.

Taking bms from any college would not harm ur future. It depends how well u grasp and study. Every student wants good education and once you are out of college no one bothers which college you passed from. They only see ur body language, the way you present and how well are u while talking.  BMS will give you a plus advantage because it’s a recognized degree all over the world. While writing ur exam write to the point and add some of yours nothing beyond the answer because writing like pages and pages would waste your time, instead utilize that time in thinking of the answer u know very well. If u think filling pages would get u more marks then you are wrong. I had written exactly 16 pages in HRM and I scored 40, but it was to the point, my friends filled one full sheet and they scored less. Write in quantity but to the point, write quality and not repeating the same line in others paragraph and have passion while doing bms and hard work is what gets u success.

I believe in
-Quality
-Quantity
-Passion
-Hard work

Best of luck juniors hope you have the best years ahead! 🙂
