What is your philosophy towards work?
My passion became my venture; hence for me the most important thing is keep that passion going. Many times I put passion ahead of revenue, but that’s the want I feel it should be done. My philosophy is keep doing in what you believe in revenue/money will follow and not the other way.
Whom do you admire as your role model? And why?
It’s difficult to name one single person; my role models are people whom I have worked/work with, my friends and family who have inspired me all the time. There cannot be better role models than the people who inspire you every day, appreciate and accept me for being myself. Over the years many people have played a role in my life and making me who I am today and who I will be tomorrow. I believe that altitude of your aspirations is directly proportional to the number of people who believe in you.
“Management is core to every individual, organization & society.” Give your views on it.
Absolutely, there is not second thought about it, Management help you to not just manage but to put things in a right prospective. It helps if reducing friction between varied ideas and more importantly prioritizes and channelizes the energy in the right direction.
Name 3 qualities of prime importance that a businessperson should possess.
1. Passion 2. Purpose 3. Planning, are I feel the three most important qualities of a businessperson.
According to you, what are the challenges for Entrepreneurship today?
The top 5 challenges for a 1st time Indian entrepreneur are:
- Early stage funding, fewer options if one is not getting an investor
- Longer, expensive and complicate statutory process
- Getting the 1st team in place – Finding people who like to be part of a start-up
- Fine tuning the business model with an open mind
- Getting the 1st customer
Can Entrepreneurship be taught in B-Schools/Management Institutes/Colleges?
It’s a very complex question, because all those who study Entrepreneurship may not really end up as good Entrepreneurs. B-Schools/Management Institutes/Colleges can only put you through the process, deliberation, planning and even incubation but the heart to be an Entrepreneur comes from within.
Is the Name of the Institute from where a student pursues his/her Graduation/Post Graduation or other courses important while setting up your business?
Not at all, what is important is the skill one acquires to pursue once passion or interest. An Entrepreneur should be able to understand all aspect of the business be it Finance, Marketing, Servicing/Production, Sales, Statutory compliance etc. As overall business understanding help not only in having a holistic view of the business but also better control on costs when you are a start-up.
Do you think today’s economy is conducive for a new venture to start upon?
One needs to start somewhere, may be even starting in a tougher economy may be a great opportunity to test the business model, make correction, build the market and even innovate.
“Earning more & more is the motive behind any business.” Is it justifiable?
Not really, it’s more holistic, business has to make money, be sustainable, be profitable, create more jobs, and contribute more to the economy and larger good.
