1) Tell us about yourself?
I’m a firm believer of the fact that the only thing constant in this world is change. Keeping that in mind, as a student of business I have been on the constant pursuit of knowledge to grow and evolve everyday.
Towards the end of my high school days, I had visions of starting up my own firm, as I was still pursuing science in Chennai at that time in my career it was still a distant dream. I realized that while science had its own charm attached to it, the practicality and opportunities studying the fields of marketing and management is where my best bet lies when it comes to realizing and fulfilling my future potential as an entrepreneur.
After deep consideration, I decided to take the plunge and pursue my aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur by joining the bachelors of management studies program in KC College, Mumbai. For my near and dear ones it was a big decision to quit science but to me, it felt like a calculative risk and a step in the right direction.
Ever since, my career has grown manifold from being the Vice-Chairperson, Department of BAF/BBI/BFM/BMS in 2013/14 to organizing and hosting awards/ cultural programs in KC College. This newfound vigor and zeal to constantly work in creation of events, ideas and opportunities at collegiate level reignited the already existing desire to set up my sports management firm. Today, I am the founder and managing director of Millo Sports Pvt. Ltd, a sports management firm, which focuses on development of sports in grass root levels. With the establishment of the company, a life long dream. I can say life in Mumbai has really come a full circle.
There were plenty of reasons for me to play it safe and follow the cautious path of others but when I did decided to go with the gut feeling and pursue studying business as an option. It made all the difference in my life, laying a perfect platform to fulfill my life long ambition of becoming an entrepreneur and realize my maximum potential.
2) How does it feel to be a Topper of the college in TY Semester V exams?
Invincible. Though the school of hard knock has taught me better, to treat the weal and woes of life the same without any disparity.
3) Whom will you credit your success to?
To my real life heroes, Mr. & Mrs. Ravi for inspiring me everyday now for 21 years. All my teachers at KC College, Principal Ms. Manju Nichani, Head of the department Mr. Kailash Chandak, Professor Ms. Ritika Pathak. Last but not least my friends Ginelle Saldanha and Hamza Boxwala.
4) Did you start preparing from the first day of your TY Semester V?
The preparation for the BMS syllabus, irrespective of whether its semester V or VI starts right from the day you joins BMS really. It’s the culmination of knowledge over the past three years that really helped me succeed in the university exams.
5) How did you study for Sem V?
Since the theory subjects in semester V are more or less inter related, a lot of smart work/planning and not necessarily hard work helped me nail the subjects.
6) Which are the easy subjects in Sem V?
The subjects in semester V are very practical, in the sense there are a lot of concepts and terms that one would actually go on to use in their future business endeavors. Hence making it an interesting read. FM is the only subject that needs a head start for.
7) Any special way of writing the answers?
My answers are always written in the below paragraph format:
-Definition/Introduction,
-Diagram,
-Concept,
-Examples and
-Conclusion
8) How do you crack case studies in theory and practical subjects?
First and foremost, allotting the required half an hour at the end of each paper for the case studies can go a long way in making or breaking it. As it is important to read the case studies a couple of times before writing the answers. One more tip I followed was to mention the facts, problems and assumptions at the start of every case study.
9) Did you draw any diagram in any paper? Is it mandatory? Does it help to get more marks?
Yes I did, it isn’t mandatory but aids the overall paper presentation.
10)Any specific study pattern adopted i.e. timetable / how many hours per subject per day etc.?
The study holidays before the exams were crucial in preparing and with respect to hours put in, I believe in quality more than quantity.
11) How do you fight against mood swings and distractions during exam preparation?
During exam time, my sole focus rested on the subject in hand. There was no room for distractions.
12) If you are made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, what changes would you like to initiate in Indian education system?
“By bridging the gap between academics and industry.” This also happens to be my college department motto. Incorporating more practicality into the existing courses and making internships before graduation compulsory. So that it helps develop the all round potential of a student.
13) Many students prepare sincerely but constantly live under fear that they are not from big college / not from English medium and eventually lose confidence. What message would you like to these students?
There is no Goliath too big to conquer.
Choose a path/course, which you are passionate and single minded about. Once you’ve done that find an inspiration or role model to look up to in your field of expertise and try emulating their path to success. Many living legends today in the field of business or even politics for that matter have overcome all odds and proven otherwise, it’s your turn now!
14) Through this struggle and success, what have you learned? What is the wisdom of life and competition?
To keep the virtues of adaptability and versatility intact at all times.
