1) Tell us about yourself?
1- I am basically from a business family, where in I believe in the art of hardwork and dedication.
Anything can be achieved in life only the will to achieve should be present. I joined BMS to get acquainted with the management side of different aspects which would somewhere down the line help me in my future. I intend to do MBA from EDI (Ahmedabad) and then take up my family business in the long run.
2) How does it feel to be a Topper of the college in TY Sem V exams?
2) Honestly, God has been really kind to me. I never expected to top and now when I have the expectations have
altogether risen to another level and yes I don’t want to get carried away and continue to do what I do the best. And I personally believe that I am far away from my best and my best is yet to come.
3) Whom will you credit your success to?
3) Lot of people actually. Starting with my family and especially my father who has always been my support throughout and believed in me more than myself. My very close friend who kept me going when I felt low and her belief did motivate me a lot. My co-ordinator Prof Mrs Neha Mehta for all her support throughout. My college group friends for being with me whenever I needed them and that really kept me going. Sangitas classes for their assistance and Prof Pawan Jhabak from Score classes for his guidance. And for all my other friends who were there whenever I needed anything. I hope I haven’t missed anyone. More than me all these people are to be given credit to.
4) Did you start preparing from the first day of your TY Sem V?
4) Yes, I did start preparing from the very beginning and especially theory subjects because some of them were quite extensive and I wanted to get a feel of it and wanted to be in the groove.
5) How did you study for Sem V?
5) Starting with practical subjects, I tried to do as many sums as possible with keeping the concepts clear and as far as theory subjects are concerned, I only read and didn’t try to mug up because it creates confusion. Head points are very crucial to remember and should be written properly with definition of each answer.
6) Which are the easy subjects in Sem V?
6) There is nothing easy or tough as such. It depends upon the area of interest of individual students I believe. For me it was FM and SSF because I am more inclined towards practical subjects. Though service sector is quite vast and should be taken up as early as possible and should not be left for the end.
7) Any special way of writing the answers? Do you write answers in bullet points or in paragraphs?
7) I wrote all my answers in points only. Underlining the head points is very crucial and writing it to the point. Answers in paragraph should be avoided. And mugging up of answers should be avoided. Understating is more important.
8) How do you crack case studies in theory and practical subjects?
8) Understanding the case was my first priority and then linking it with the chapter was how I did my case studies. Again answers in points with some examples really help I believe. It was more about understanding the case more than anything else and giving a practical dimension to it.
9) Did you draw any diagram in any paper? Is it mandatory? Does it help to get more marks?
9) I drew diagrams where ever it was necessary. It does help and although not mandatory, can fetch you better marks for sure.
10) Any specific study pattern adopted i.e. timetable / how many hours per subject per day etc.?
10) I am not a big fan of timetable as such. I used to keep a target in mind and always tried mixing practical subject with a theory subject otherwise it gets too monotonous and boring. I used to dedicate around 6 hours to 8 hours a day for studying.
11) How do you fight against mood swings and distractions during exam preparation?
11) There were lot of those to be really honest to you. My friend really helped me a lot and she kept reminding me about my goals. I really felt like quitting in between but then I realised I started everything for a purpose. So yes these things did keep me going and small breaks in between really helps. The belief was always there. According to me it’s more of a matter of choice than anything else. If you really want to do it, then I guess there is nothing that can stop you.
12) If you are made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University, what changes would you like to initiate in Indian education system?
12) I really hope that I am not made the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University because if I am then I would turn the entire system upside down. There is no room for practical knowledge. Theoretical knowledge to a certain extent is acceptable but entire focus on theory doesn’t solve the purpose of meaningful learning. There needs to be more practical exposure to students by ways of visits to various industries and outside experts giving their views on a regular basis. Removing PPT’s from the BMS curriculum was the worst thing university could ever do. So dynamics of the practical world should be instilled in the education system to have more qualified and better students that are ready to take the challenges of day to day life.
13) Many students prepare sincerely but constantly live under fear that they are not from big college / not from English medium and eventually lose confidence. What message would you like to these students?
13) If these factors had a role to play, then a tea staller wouldn’t have been the Prime Minister of the largest democracy in the world and a college drop out wouldn’t have been the founder of a company called Apple. If someone strives to get the best results and remains focused throughout, then all the small factors like big college or small college, English medium or Hindi medium, rich or poor does not stand a chance anywhere. I am not a gyan guru or anything, I have just started the journey of my life and haven’t achieved anything great but I feel that all the students should focus on only studying and their goals and they will eventually be there.
14) Through this struggle and success, what have you learned? What is the wisdom of life and competition?
14) I have learned to be more focused in life and believe that hardwork and perseverance is the real key to success. Anything can happen in life. I think I am too small in stature in terms of success in life as of for now to talk about the wisdom and competition but again the passion to do something big in life with a blend of hardwork and dedication will always help. I would like to tell all the upcoming students of different courses to stay focused and believe in yourself no matter what anyone says.
15) Your feedback for BMS.co.in?
15) BMS.co.in is doing a terrific job in helping the students of BMS on various fronts and I think it’s a really good initiative taken to nurture the students of BMS.
