Is Quality a Myth in India?

1

Quality is an abstract term so to define it is bit difficult. As per management definition ” Quality is what satisfies the customer”. Quality of a product made by a company is always dependant on the type of the product and more importantly on type of consumers they target. For example: TV manufacturers have their own price tag. No price is same so quality of every television differs features and facility differs so price differs. Quality has 3 major aspects Reliability, maintainability and safety. It states the standards maintained by the company.

REALITY:
Talking about India, India has set a quality council in 1997. QCI provides stratgic direction to the quality movement in the country by establishing recognition of india conformity assessment syste, at the international level. QCI also has quality inspection bodies for regular quality assessment in any industry. Quality helps in defining countries economy/GDP and its stature in global map. Example : Germany is known to manufacture its high quality cars which has luxurious and are one of their type in the world like mercedes, smart, porshe etc.

India is known for its services which is of high quality in service sector industry which contributes more than 50% in GDP. Comapnies like JUST DIAL have grown beacause of excellent quality of service they provide. JUMBO VADAPAV runs its business on its quality of vadapav which may be costlier than others but they have 100 centres all over mumbai.

MYTH:
Indian market produces that do lack quality due to following reasons: cost , time, attitude ,lack of competition etc. It takes an initial cost to renovate an existing product to bring in quality and assurance of quality. But indians have the ‘ chalta hai ‘ attitude which will bring its consequences. Every year thousands of farmers are commiting suicides due to fake seeds, Government after seeing this induce huge money last year 25000 crores in agriculture industry. Even many are dying due to food poisoning or adulteration ifn all kinds of food. Many buildings are collapsing due to lack of quality in their planning. Example gujrat earthquake of 2001.

DRASTIC DIFFERENCES:
We have high quality mineral water but so many places there is ack of portable drinking water. Our ambulances cannot reach the destination in even an hour but we have pizzas delivered in less than half an hour. Our city roads are full of pothholes and just connecting them would be an express highway that shortens the journey time quite a bit.
