With Life @ BMS we bring to you personal experiences and stories of BMS students from across Mumbai. Get to know about the different BMS colleges and life at those colleges from the students themselves.
Today we spoke to, Ishita S. Bhojwani an F.Y.BMS student from National College, Bandra.
Q. What is the best part of being a student of National College of arts, commerce and science?
The best thing of being a part of Nationals is I feel the way I got admission into the college. Unlike every other so called esteemed college like Mithibai, NM, Jaihind etc who run after cut offs and of course management seats/influences don’t require any cut offs; people with 50% also get in. Whilst Nationals is strictly merit basics.
Q. Can you please shed some light on the faculty and their teaching methods?
Well the faculty is really nice, no biases and no doubt in that! They understand us and they actually ask us whether this teaching style is better or that. They take extra classes for whichever topic we don’t understand. I haven’t yet felt the need to go for classes for any subjects not even Statistics.
Q. Tell us something about the infrastructure of the college?
The college is huge, really huge. With a really nice canteen and place around it and the basketball court and AC classrooms. Except for the washrooms everything is just so in place!
Q.What are the steps the college takes to ensure overall personality development apart from studies?
We have fests and competitions every now and then. We also have a lot of seminars for us, like recently we had a seminar by NSE – National Stock Exchange and we get certificates for attending the same which is really good!
Q. Do you have any positive or negative insights about your college that you would like to share with us?
This being my first year in Nationals I’ve had only positive experiences except for one, which is literally the worse and that is the fact that a particular professor failed more than half of the BMS crowd in her exam because she’s used to it. It’s really frustrating for students like me at least who haven’t failed ever in life!
Q. What is your best college memory?
I think I’m just living through the best memory that’s working for my College Festival! And who can forget the canteen. Oh and of course many more memories to come
Q. What kind of fests? Days? Or I.V’s do you have? Please mention any specific incident you would like to share with us.
We have different fests from every department where we all can participate besides we have a very unique fest every year known as BlowFest which is between the whole college divided into different houses like Vayu, Agni etc. We also have days like Traditional Day and so on. IVs is a part of our curriculum, but I guess Nationals has had some bad experience hence yet we aren’t sure as to we have one or not.
