The long awaited La Decima was conquered by Real Madrid last season. Real Madrid proved last year that they still are a dominant name in Europe. The Los Blancos had a lot to prove last season and they somewhat achieved their goal. But as it is said, it is not difficult to reach the top; the difficult part is to stay there.
Real Madrid started the culture of signing star players for a substantial fee. There were days when real team was called el galacticos, because they had the stars of the game wearing the royal jersey. They had players like Ronaldo, Figo, Beckham, Zidane, Raul and many more in their squad. Real Madrid has a reputation of breaking its own transfer records, they did the same last year when they bought Gareth Bale from Tottenham for 100 million euros. Breaking their own record when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester united for 80 million euros. Real Madrid has been the hub of transfers as they are always involved in the buying and selling of players. This year the Spanish giants have bought Columbian sensation James Rodrigues and Toni Kroos.
It was always believed that the Spanish club always underperformed in the champion’s league, but last year it changed under the management of Carlo Ancelotti. The trio of Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema, haunted the opposition as they sliced their way to the finals. It is a well-known fact that real Madrid has the most deadly counter attack and they proved it against Bayern Munich. Ronaldo scored a record 17 goals which rubber stamped the credentials of the Portuguese global star. Gareth bale lived up to his reputation by scoring and assisting on regular basis. Gareth bales solo effort goal in the finals of copa del rey proved why real have paid such a big amount for the Welshman.
Real had a successful season last year, after winning the champions league and the copa del rey. But they still finished 3rd in the league behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Fans would be hoping that real show their class in the domestic league this season to become champions, but it won’t be easy as Barcelona have plans of their won after signing Luis Suarez. Real Madrid have quenched their thirst for la decima, but it would be very interesting to see if Real Madrid can be the first team to win the champions league in consecutive years.
