united 1st game

The English Premier League has started and the new season looks as exciting as ever. Manchester United had a rough last season, Sir Alex Ferguson had retired and the successor David Moyes was incompetent for such a big job where united ended up 7th position, the team which had never finished below 3rd position in couple of decades.

Last season was a season to forget for United fans and this season there was a huge confidence boost with someone of Louis Van Gaal caliber manager appointed as the new united boss. He has a history of reviving team and making them the best again. He has a massive experience which United need this season. Van Gaal finished the pre-season friendlies winning each and every game beating the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool in the process, United had did buy likes of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw but lost old players Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs.

There was a huge build up to the game, there was a great buzz in the media about LvG and United’s new season. That was the enthusiasm, confidence among fans but it all ended with the very first game of the English Premier League which was Manchester United playing at home against Swansea. LvG came up with his preferred 3-5-2 formation with young defender Blackett and young attacker Lingard getting their debut. The game started up slow with United having most of the possession but no final threat on goal. Swansea though got a break through with South Korean Ki Sung-Yueng scoring a great goal from just outside the box. It all started looking like last season where many teams have come to Old Trafford and scored early. The first half ended as 0-1.

At the second half LVG switched united to 4-4-2 formation to provide extra width and brought on Nani as a substitute at left wing and Adnan Januzaj at the right wing for injured Lingard. United did get the breakthrough from a corner with Wayne Rooney’s brilliant effort and it was looking like United will finally win it just like the old days. Amazingly with all the possession and noise from crowd, it was Gylfi Sigurdsson scoring at the other end giving Swansea a lead again at the 72nd minute. United never recovered and it was all over for them even after trying hard at final minutes.

Manchester United’s dreams looked shattered just after the 1st game and the fans are again at the low confidence. Relief for Man Utd will be that superstar Robin Van Persie will be back soon and the transfer window is still open and United can go out for shopping and ofcourse they have a great experienced and a winning manager at the helm in Louis Van Gaal. So, to say United might have a bad season is just a exaggeration and still 37 games are left and The Red Devils need to k  eep calm and trust Louis Van Gaal.
