The man of the moment, the 15th and current Prime Minister of India Narendra Damodardas Modi gets a ritzy BMW 760Li Security Edition (which is considered to be the safest vehicle in India) from the Special protection Group (SPG). NaMo who likes him to be driven in his favorite SUV; the Mahindra Scorpio, he even used the same vehicle to go for the swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and also during the election campaigns.
But after elected as the PM of India, Narendra Modi had to abandon his SUV for the swanky BMW due to security reasons. The 760Li is powered with a V12 engine which goes 0-100kmph in 6.2 seconds. The safety features include intercom system, an attack alarm, run-flat tyres. The intercom system allows the occupant to connect to the outside world without even leaving the vehicle or opening the doors and windows.
Mahindra & Mahindra wrote a letter to Modi requesting him to continue using the Scorpio as his official car as it would be a matter of great pride and honour for the Indians and the company also. However, Modi had to go with the BMW due to security reasons.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee decided to replace the Hindustan Motors manufactured Ambassadors with BMW’s in 2003.
