Over 1000 Mumbai University students bunked their classes in protest of the controversial suspension of one of their professors.Â
Dr. Neeraj Hatekar, a professor of Econometrics in the Economics Department at the Mumbai University was suspended last Saturday because he held a press conference last year and reported the mismanagement and deterioration of the university’s academic status.
The students carried out a protest at the main gate of Kalina campus building and said they would shut the main gates not allowing other students to enter the premises.
Students also said that due to Prof. Hatekar’s suspension, they have lost a good professor for important subjects like econometrics, game theory and microeconomics. Students have began a signature campaign where they received 300 signatures and are planning to meet the Governor of the state over the issue.
On the other hand, Prof. Hatekar has submitted a petition to the High Court, questioning the suspension order.
