Ring football started with a bang with participants all set to go in their jersey’s and all ready to challenge their opponents. Ring football being very common amongst the youngsters these days I would call it as a mini-version of football with a bit of changes in some rules and regulations. It’s being organized by most of the colleges around the city in their annual fests.
Because of its popularity among the collegians many teams turned for this event. It had the highest number of participants then other events. On the spot registration for the game was like a cherry on the cake due to which the teams participated one after the other and the cheap entry fee was affordable by all the teams. The participation was way more than college expected.
It was going to be a 16 min game with 7 mins first half,2 mins break and the other 7 min half. The number of members in per team required was 6+2 i.e 6 team members and 2 members as substitutes. The only rule that was supposed to be followed by players was no player was allowed to hit the ball above waist height and outside throw-ins was not allowed. There were some safety precautions that were followed by the college authorities like the players were not allowed ring chains and things which could hurt the other players while playing.
There were around 14 teams that participated in this event. That meant that 7 matches were conducted followed by the semi finals and the finals. The teams that were going to play in finals were Kohinoor Business School and Chetana’s Post Graduation. It was going to be a tough match as both the teams were excellent in their game. And the college which walked towards victory was Kohinoor Business School (Winning Team members – Abhijeet Malve, Prashant Shripuram, Nazarath Utankar, Pratik Yerunkar).
The team was at their best. The players played their best game and the co-ordination among them was speechless. While interviewing them I asked them about their strategy to which they answered that they just had one strategy, they made short and quick passes and were playing a fast game which confused their opponents and most importantly they enjoyed playing this game.
The opponents felt that the only reason they lost it was because of the age difference between them. But they still had an optimistic approach and were willing to participate next year.
Winning Team
